Will a TOT57271 disty work in place of a TOT57171 disty?

94-95 disty is a TOT57171.. Newer mx's and 95 probes/626's have a TOT57271 disty, they look the same but can anyone confirm that a 271 disty will work in a 171 car? I need this info asap.

Mine is a 94 and previous owner had their mechanic fit the TOT57271, it takes forever to start. I spoke to a bloke from a company here in Oz called 'Logicar' http://www.logicar.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and he has told me that I definitely need the TOT57171 as it has the cam sensor. The reason that it eventually will start is because the ECU finally overlooks the fact there is no cam sensor and starts it but, it runs crap, bad idle. It also eventually cracks the internal backing plate due to the extra cranking, as I just discovered.

Ah thank you for that advice, that saves me and another mx'er a headache.

It's to bad it wont work though, that TOT57171 disty is hard to find and is only specific to 94-95 mx3's

And here I thought the 95 didn't have a cam sensor. There I learned something new today, I can start drinking early. Yahoo

Well I am assuming obdII cars have no cam sensor. This particular 95 is OBDI

I was quoted anywhere between $700 to $1200 AU for a replacement distributor, this Logicar company will do it for $349 AU plus GST (Tax) with warranty and they know what they are talking about, shoot them an email or call if you can afford the phone bill.

I wondered this myself but just didnt ask the question. Rockauto has been selling reman'd disty's for our 94's (minus cap and rotor) for a while. I think the price point was like 60-80 bucks too.

not sure if this has been answered the way you wanted or not.... but yes if you have a TOT57071 OR A TOT57072, and you want to use a TOT57271 in the mx3, yes it will work.. the TOT57071 OR A TOT57072 are from the mx-3's. the TOT57271 is from a ford prob, i know this will work cause im using the TOT57271. and i didnt do anything, my disty went in my mx3, i bought the TOT57271, put it in and the car runs like a charm..

That doesn't really answer the question. Your referring to another disty.

I have a tot57171 specific to a 94-95 mx3. Not a 57071 or 57072

yeh i missed placed some number when i posted that.. But yes if you want to replace the TOT57171 with a 271 disty it will work. I had the 7171 in my car that it came with, when it went i bought the 271 and it worked with no problems. the good thing about changing the disty is you dont have to mark where the disty sits:D, its already pre-marked it can only go in one way. Love when they make it easy ha ha
