Hello I have a 93 MX-3. The brake lights just stopped working for some reason. Everything else is fine. This car is in the original condition with no mods done to it. Anyone know how I can troubleshoot this issue? I checked all the fuses on the drivers side fuse panel and none seem to be blown and all have power. I would like to know what else I can check. I'm not a real car techie but I would hate to have to scrap a perfectly good car for something like this.
Cheers

Re: Break Lights
At the brake pedal there is a switch that closes when the pedal is pressed. The switch will have 2 terminals, 1 with constant 12 volt power, and the other with 12 volts only when the pedal is pushed. Probe the 2 terminals with a test light, and make sure that the switched terminal shows 12 volts when the pedal is pressed.
If the switch checks out okay, the next step its to look for a break in the wiring. It doesn't seem likely that both brake light bulbs would burn out at the same time, unless you only noticed once they were both finally burnt out. Of course check the bulbs back there. If they're fine, it shouldn't be difficult to find a break in the wiring. It goes along the driver's side scuffplate, then under the rear seat, and into the hatch.
Good luck. No need to scrap a car over something so insignificant.
