hello. i'm new here. but my question is, will a 2.5 v6 turbo manifold fit a k8 v6 without being modified. i should also ask how many people think i'm crazy for wanting to put a turbo on a k8 with 230,034 miles on it.

I will reply with a question: What kind of motorcycle do you have, motorcycle man?

it will fit but youll need to mod it like you would have to do with a ze!

i think your crazy!

k8 turbo 200hp
klze 200hp

k8 turbo= pain in a-- to maintain
klze= lots of fun with out the pain in the a--!

Welcome to the forum. I'm guessing you're talking about putting a turbo setup on a K8 IM. The outer diameter of the TBs are the same. From what I remember, a turbo K8 will hold 230ishWHP. I'm also guessing that you already have the turbo setup.

havent bought anything yet, gotta put my coolant sensor in and see if that gets rid of my wierd miss when it warms up. was planning on a t-4 turbo with external wastegate and 3 inch stainless exhaust all the way back. i'm running a cold air intake, with 2 1/2 inch exhaust a few mods done to intake and no cat and i'm turning 170 horse at the moment. it peeked at 6,000 rpm for horse and torque which i was assuming it was going to do. the k8 engine seems to produce better just short of redline. the cars been awesome, was gonna replace it but it just wont die. dont smoke or leak, and its never had the engine tore down for anything. in my book, the k8 is a die hard engine, but could use a turbo and would be happy with about 230-240 horse.

how in the f--- did you get 170hp out of the k8 without major modification? are you sure your not running a klde?

x2

also, 3inch exhaust is not needed below 300hp.

What do you mean by "2.5 V6 turbo manifold"?

the 2.5 engine everbody does the swap on. may be the same engine in the ford probe?

the biggest problem with the k8 is the fact that once any of the sensors etc get changed, it destroys the way these things run. mine always ran good, but i thought it could run better. i cleaned the egr, dumped the cat, put a turbo muffler from advance auto on it, cold air intake, and added some extra engine grounds. i get 36 mpg on the highway with the cruise set, and 31 with the trailer with a quad on it. it took some digging to get all the sensors set right, but yah, the 170 suprised me. didnt get a big gain till the cat disappeared and the turbo muffler went on.

Im in Mississippi... to far for you to help me physically, but not to far for me to borrow that creative brain.....
1. Added some extra engine grounds? *What did this do for you and where did you add them?
2. Sensors get canged. *Why does this destroy the way the car runs & what to do to set them right?
3. Turbo muffler. *is this loud & why add one if car doesnt have turbo?
4. Removing CAT. *What changes occured when this was removed? Thanks in advance, De

Stock K8 is rated from the factory at 138hp. So at the wheels, with losses the stock car is probably putting down 105 or so. So you're saying that you cleaned the EGR, removed the cat, added a turbo muffler and cold air intake and netted 65hp?

That, I am afraid to tell you, is flatly impossible. That engine is either not a K8 or it is not making 170hp. Period.

As for your turbo manifold...All the K family heads and blocks are the very same. Any k manifold will bolt to any k head. The pipes from a kit for another car will not necessarily fit on the MX-3 however due to the position of the subframe and transmission mount member.

Post your dyno results or I call this 100% BS, I've had a k8, a kfze, and a klze... NONE of them produce 170whp to the wheels except the klze its IMPOSSIBLE for a 135bhp engine to produce 170whp with what you've done... I dropped 8k in my KF and had Sunbelt Performance, Manley Performance, and MOCA help build the engine and the most it was pulling 160whp on an engine thats rated at 170bhp, swapped to a klze swapped all my bolt ons and Hit 172whp on an engine rated at 200bhp.

BS unless Dyno is posted

the reason for added grounds is the fact that the mx3 and ford probe are under grounded from the battery to the starter and from the battery to the engine. the ecm is also undergrounded. i found mine to be undergrounded upon the fact that when i checked my codes, it would throw a code saying sea level change. it made no sense. when i dug into it, the mazda dealer asked me if i had actually put the ground kit package on it. i said no. i went ahead and threw a ground from the battery to the car body and one to a stud on the intake. got rid of my code and changed my idle.
there are a few sensors that change variable. i found 2 of the emissions solenoids had at one time sucked up some oilly residue and were indeed half plugged. i cleaned them and they work well now. the tps is also a changing variable. i actually checked mine once a week for 4 weeks and everytime it was off and caused a weird rev pattern. i put larger washers on the screws to prevent the screws from grabbing the tps and the slots and now it dont move when i tighten the screws. the egr being cleaned out also made a worl of difference. when its plugged and then gets cleaned, they definately run better and way smoother.
the turbo muffler is just a term they use for high flow muffler, and yes it does make it sound like a 2jz with straight exhaust.
the cat removal was the biggest gain. the k8 is a very corked motor. remove the cork, free up the horsepower. i dont know why everybody hates the k8, the a great engine with a few unfavorable problems, but porsche designed it, must be good.
