I was reading up on the k-sprot website and they say that the OEM handbreak wont work? :confused2: Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions/solutions.

i'm not totally positive on what i'm about to say but heres my assumption.
uhh, i think on our cars is a cable handbrake and on the k-sports are hydralic so it would require you to convert your cable style handbrake to a hydralic handbrake.
This is just an assumption.
but just to let you know, theres other ways of increasing your brakes for a lot cheaper than buying this kit from k-sport, just take a look at wytbyshop's worklog, he did a write up on it with pictures

The stock rear calipers are hyraulic with a mechanical arm to actuate the piston manually using the handbrake. The Ksport caliper doesn't have a mechanical component. The only way to actuate the caliper is hydraulically.

You would basically need to fabricate a parking brake. Or just drive without an e-brake.

unless you regularly park on cliffs, just leave it in gear. up in the cold and corrosive north, leaving the ebrake on OFTEN leads to stuck rear brakes, which do not release when trying to get off of slippery driveways. It results in your brothers K1500 truck barely being able to pull you off the yard through a foot of snow, in the dark, and 20 meters down, trying to drive with both rear tires locked, you pull over, pop off the rear tires 1x1 and beat the s--- out of the studs with a 2x4 from brothers truck, and then go home 40 minutes later than intended.

Ask me how I know.

I use my ebrake every day, would not be able to live without it!

Parking your car in gear is FTL

automatics park in gear 100% of the time.

It makes way more sense, the ebrake only seizes and causes issues, unless you live in beautiful weather land.

Automatics FTL!

Ebrakes only sieze if they AREN"T used, I've never had an ebrake problem in the 4 years I've driven manual cars since I use them every day! For long term storage, no they should not be left on.

Have you driven in 40 below? I will NEVER use my ebrake in winter again. no need to put my clutch and tires through that.

I've only living in 20 below, not 40.

Wouldn't it be your brakes freezing then, not seizing? Like what happens on the ice road truckers show.

hot rotors/drums collect a layer of condensation on cooling.... pads/shoes are in the middle of that. they freeze, not seize.

I always use the e-brake to park, and then I put it in gear just as a secondary measure. But if anything were to happen I'd rather replace the brakes than the transmission. Even when I drive automatics I shift into neutral and let it rest on the e-brake first, and then shift it into park. Haven't you seen how much automatic cars rock back and forth with that sh*t?

Well, I won't argue anymore, but I will laugh my a-- off when someone's cable takes a hike, or they don't pull it tight enough, and their car goes for a ghost joyride into traffic.

You're the first person I've ever known that refuses to use the ebrake which IS a parking brake on a standard car.

lol

Just find it funny. Family has driven/had manual cars all their life never had a problem.

Ebrake FTMFW

As for the ksport brakes... which was your original question.. it is true, they have no ebrake attachment for them. The mx uses a fork to manually put pressure on the caliper piston. However, the Ksport brakes operate like the front calipers on the MX with no attachment for the ebrake cable.

I would not be happy with this. Love my ebrake, especially after adjusting it last week :D

If you look at the Wilwood site they offer a small parking brake caliper. If I was thinking about a rear 6 or 8 piston system I would also be thinking about how to encorporate a parking brake.
