Hi guys,

I have a question:
Is it possible to combine Chrome-Altezzas and OEM tail light?

I would take glass of an OEM tail light and will mount it on the Altezza.

Did anybody do this yet?

Best regards and thank you for helping.
Tom

Yes. hotsiit and nd4spdse have done it. Look at their worklogs for pics.

Cool. :love2:

Is it just plug&play? :)

Are there any tutorials?

Mini tutorial:

oven bake the tail to remove the lense. Do not let any of the stringy urethane touch a surface you want to see. It does NOT come off.

oven bake housing and re-insert lense.

There may be a tutorial on oven baking. http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/search.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oven baking is clear to me. :)
We do it in Germany too.
I did it with front-lights yet.

But what do you mean with these words exactly?
"Do not let any of the stringy urethane touch a surface you want to see. It does NOT come off."

And there are no differences between the Altezza-glass and the OEM-glass?
The have the same shape and the same mounting-points/mounting-clips?

The urethane that seals between the lens and housing is permanent. If you get it on the part of the lens that you see (not just the edges), it will not come off and look terrible. It is NOT like bathroom silicone that peels off.

They have the same shape and size. People have done this before you. Put OEM glass over altezza housing.

All right. Thanks. :)

I know the seal from the front-parkings-lights. ;)

But I have another question:
I have Chrome-Altezzas.
But I don't want to see the round chambers of the altezzas.
Like in this picture. I WONT see the cambers

I prefer this look:

Can I get this look, when I combine my chrome-altezzas and the OEM glasses and after this tint the lights red and after them a little bit with black?

Do you know, what I mean?

I know what you mean.

I'm not sure how those members made their particular look. Did you read around the picture in the worklog?

It could also be lighting

They look tinted on the white one, maybe that helps hide the altezzas better.

So keep in mind that Euro taillights will give a different look than US spec taillights since the Euro inner lights closest to the license plate tend to have a rounded inner look due to the rear foglamps. Now if you are talking about just painting the amber signals red that is easy to do. Other than that I'm not sure what you mean by the white car - those appear to be stock taillights painted red with maybe a hint of tint... see my pic below of all red euro tails

The other option is: Why don't you just spray your chrome altezzas red? This is how mine turned out and they give a unique look without a lot of flash...

Thank you for the pics and the hints.
On your pics these are only red tinted Euro-taillights? They are no Hybrid-Altezza-taillights?
Do I always see the round Altezza-bulbs through Hybrid-taillights? Also, when I tint the taillights in red and a bit of black?

The white MX-3 does not have Hybrid-Altezzas-OEM-taillights?

But are the Euro-taillight-glasses really different to the US-taillight-glasses?
I only know, that the inner part (the mirror) of the Euro-taillights is different because of the fog light.
Do you have more pics of the differences because of the fog lights of the taillights?

Red tinted Altezzas also give a nice look.
But there could be a problem with the reverse-drive-lamp.
Does these lights do glow white on red tinted Altezzas? Or dot hey glow light-red?

In my pics, the normal looking ones are OEM, the altezza looking ones are altezza + red paint I don't have any pics of the hybrids... Nd4spdse pic is of hybrids with the round circles underneat the OEM lense

Correct

White car? If you mean this one, its metallic beige.

The taillights are stock, no altezzas. I just sprayed the amber corners with some transparent candy apple paint and put a red bulb in, then I tinted them a bit.

The tint faded over the years so I tinted them again and went a little darker, then sprayed some clearcoat over them. Hopefully they will last longer.
