Sohc to Dohc Engine Swap

Post by gamenerd90 »

Hi I have a 1993 sohc base model Mx3. My transmission gave out on me and I recently purchased a 95 Mx3 with the dohc engine. To my knowledge the transmission would be plug and play but was not sure about the engine. Is there any way someone could completely explain what needs to be done in order to swap the dohc with the sohc (or point me in the right direction) as this engine has even less miles on it and is much more powerful thank you in advance for all your help.

Easy now.

Did that link not work for you?
Don't be so lazy. There are many many quick easy answers here, but you have to be willing to look for it. You would have found the answer sooner than it took you to talk sh!t. Oh, and you forgot to thank EVO for showing you the link to the search function.

well i am not 100% but i think the only real difference in the motors is the heads. so it should bolt right up. and plug and play.
s*** now i have a question. haha i got a 92 4banger manual. its a dohc. now did it come with that motor? or was it swapped?
and whats the specs on that motor. like whp and lbs/torque
i dont know much bout my 4banger cuz it just sits now.
also cuz i got the gsze

No one does a SOHC to DOHC swap, it's just not worth while in the effort. One thing I'm curious about is if it'll work because of the difference harness that they use.

If you're car is manual, put in a BP, more power and it's compatible with your OEM harness.
If you're car is automatic, you probably are stick with the SOHC unless you swap to manual or change the engine harness.

His '92 may already have been BP swapped, that may be why it's DOHC. He should look into that.

That's a B6-ME dude. It's the SOHC 1.6 L. There are SOHC engines which use 4 valves per cylinder, as this one does. That's definitely not a BP or the DOHC B6-DE.
