I've searched probetalk mx-6 and here and can't seem to find the info i want... i found a klg4 engine in the wrecker in a 2002 626 and noticed it has a coil pack on it. (i believe the engine died on the car cause there is no damage on it at all)
im running a klze curve neck and had a disty error on my check engine light... i was wanting to swap this into my car and was wondering what i needed to do. I was more wondering if anyone knew if it was possible without a megasquirt cause im just running a probinator chipped ecu and dont really wanna spend the money for a ms...
a link or any answers would be awesome THANKS!!!

You need something like MS to run it as the ECU we have wil not recognize the coilpacks, the technology is beyond what the ECU was made for.

or you could swap the engine harness from the 626 if you really wanted it. I have since found out after sending an email to DIYautotune.com that the 98+ 626 is in fact a Ford EEC-V computer system, and thats why it has the 36-1 crank trigger wheel and coil pack setup on it.

So you think that it would all work in a MX3 body? I assume that the fans would have to run on a switch and there may be a few wires that would need to be extended or modded. I guess that is plausible but untested

^^yeah I am sure there would be a few differences, especially since it would be OBD1 vs OBD2. I dont think the wire length would be a big deal, and then you should be able to use the OE MX3 fuse/relay box to run the fans just the same as normal I would think.

I will be attempting this swap in the future into my escort so we will see how difficult it will be I guess, or it may be easier for me since I am going from Ford EEC-IV to V

From past experience with some friends trying to swap OBD1 to OBD2 on KL powered cars you're in for a lot of work. You'll probably need to swap over ALL the wiring. Engine harness, all the fender wiring, fuse box etc.

If you want coil packs, considering the cost and hassle of attempting an OBD2 swap you're much better off going to Megasquirt and gaining full control over everything in the process. I've been running MS with coil packs for about 4 years now with absolutely zero issues.
