okay... last night was a reall piss off. long story short my car keys got jacked so i had to steal my own car in the minus 35 deg C weather....

i have a spare lock key so getting in was no issue just driving home from the leisure centre was the problem.... my friend (msd-supermx3) was generous enough to assist with it... [EDITED] any ways after this we could start the car and drive it home...
Does anyone know how much a lock smith would charge to make me a new key...

New key cuts are cheap I'm sure.

Try 175 bucks. Oh well apparently if you contact mazda and give them the vin # they can get a code that a lock smith can use

So much easier to just tow it home....
Simply go to a scrap yard, find a car with a key, and take its lock cylinders and ignition.
Done.

The dealer charged me $25, with the VIN and title (as proof of ownership). Worth it, it is a "new" key, not a 15 year old worn copy of a copy!

Really though... that seemed like a ton of work... It's good to know, as now I feel safer and don't think someone would jack my car that easily.

Question? You couldn't take a cab home to pick up a spare key one would assume would have laying around at all times?? Or have someone drop it off??
SMOOTH MOVE!!!

How long did you have it for? :O
When I got mine, it came with 5 keys... no I'm not kidding. I wish I was... I had a hard time finding places to stuff them all.
I had a locksmith make 1 brand new key with the original cuts. Not a copy, but an exact original based on the depth of each cut.
That service cost me $20 + the key blank.
I later realized I had him copy a door/ignition key... and not the one that also opens the glove box. I am tempted to slam my head against my desk for that one even now...
