Has anyone put a trailer hitch on their MX3? What type was it and was it a bolt on or did you require modifying it? Does anyone else know if they sell a direct fit hitch without drilling holes?

Thank you

What for? I'm not sure our transmissions (or our motors for that matter) were designed for pulling a trailer...

I'd just rent a truck...

I bought a hitch off EBay that said it was for a 626, but would fit the MX-3. It fitjust fine. I had to bang the mounting tab a little. I just used it for a bike hauler, but my fast car would easily pull a trailor.

Its not just about power.

Your rear suspension can't handle a heavy tongue weight.

your brakes aren't meant to stop any extra weight.

your tires aren't rated for the extra load

a trailer can put strong lateral forces on the rear end, which could wind up poorly.

your transmission wasn't meant for the extra stress.

your engine wasn't built for the torque

your clutch will hate you.

Gentlemen, at the risk of sounding like an a--hole, I asked about hitch types and not whether I should tow anything with the MX3.

I am aware of the consequences or potential damage of towing with the MX3, but I have no intentions of using it on a daily, weekly or even a monthly basis. My intent is an occasional trip to the lumber store using a very small trailer for items too large for the car, possibly hauling my motorcycle "IF" and "ONLY IF" I ever break down, which happened "once" in seven years and the most use would be to use adapters for bicycle carrying or small cooler size carrier for camping or otherwise. Therefore, thanks for the warnings, but I hope someone can chime in with hitch info, as they do make them for this car.

I don't think he was actually towing the boat. He did tow something though. He has a ZE as well.

Screw the Manual, I have one on my MX6 no probs. Ryan is an alarmist (but I like him anyway lol ) just don't pull more than a few hundred pounds. The rules were meant to be broke, take a chance for fu*k sake. You wanna live forever.

I've been wondering about this too. I'm interested in one so I can haul my tires, tools, and misc parts back and forth to autocrossing events. I just want a setup that I can take the assembly off in under 5 minutes.

It is good to have trailer hitch but should be cautious for the overweight.

I considered trying to modify a hitch assembly so that it was invisible unless you knew where to look for it... I decided it was not worth the effort, as I have an SUV that hauls perfectly fine without any modification...
