Conjecture on engine light?

It has started coming on after about 2-3 munites from start, and stays on a minute or so, then goes out for the rest of the trip. I know I can pull the codes, but haven't had the chance since it started this morning. I'm not familiar with limp mode on this car, but during the engine light period, the car seemed much less peppy. Not missing, or anything obvious.

Gas milage has been going down, and the exhaust pipe is blacker now, where it used to be more greyish which inicates to this old dude that it is burning rich.

So I'm guessing an O2 sensor. Any other guesses?

Jim

There are no guesses. Pull the codes.

Certianly, I'm going to, but conjecture is fun!

Also, could someone point me to the list of V6 ECU codes? The search function does not like me.

It takes literally like 1 min to check the codes. I always carry a paperclip in my car, just hop out and toss it in and BAM you find the codes.

This link is all you need.

Thanks. It has been raining here, and when i get home it's too dark and I'm too wiped out. If it were serious, yes, I would make time, but for now, it has to wait until Saturday.

BTW, it only lights when restarted after only a short time off, with the engine still warm. Cold starts get no light.

Even though the CEL is not on it still has the code stored in the ECU. So don't think you need to check the light only when the CEL is on.
