1996 MX-3 Klze, died on the way to work. :(

I was on my way to work friday morning and stopped at a stop light, and my engine rpm's increased, to about 1300 for a second, then down to sub 500 then my engine died. I tried to fire it back up but it just turned over and wouldn't start. After work I checked to see if it had spark and it didn't so I was think distributor or ECU. My friend has an OBD 2 code reader which I tried to hook up this morning, and it connected, but when trying to connect to my ecu just kept saying error. So i have no idea if it is the ECU or Distributor.. I priced out each at lordco and each is about 400. I looked at all the wreckers in my area and none have either...

Did you do the swap? Are you sure it still has the obd2 ecu? Not all code readers work will all cars.

is it possible you're running obd1 still? Id check disty first, it's one of most common failures with mx-3's

He's OBDII

Yea, I would also say check the timing belt Nick. I didn't think of that.

Yeah, I did the swap back in march. I replaced the timing belt when I did the swap, but i will check that asap. and as Solo Ryder said it is OBD2.

Okay, so I pulled the the bolts off the top of the timing cover, pulled it pack and the belt still had tension and went around the pulley's I could see. so it's not that, thankfully. I'm not so keen on dropping 400 hundred buck for a new distributor or ecu, anyone know a place that has either??

I have an OBD-II disty that came with my KLZE that is now in my 1993 GS-SE. Had to use the K8 disty and a KL36 ECU for my vehicle but I still have the KF34 disty that came with the engine. Look here:

If this one will work with your setup, PM me, suggest a price, and I can get it to you...FAST...

No spark, sounds like a dizzy to me. Wouldn't be the timing belts unless it did have spark.

Yeah, that sounds good, as for a price, A wrecker in Vancouver said he would give me one for 60. but how does 90 bucks plus shipping sound, and how did you want me to pay?
