No luck, he's automatic. You'd have to convert to manual, and being a 96, he'll have the DOHC harness, so he'd have to either get the 92-93 SOHC harness or a BP harness.

Are there JDM engines can you can put into your car: yes
Are they little to no work: no, especially since you have to change the transmission as well.

Changing a motor itself a fair amount of work. Putting a cold air intake is little work, changing a motor is alot of work.

He'd be better off with a 2nd gen BP from a 95-98 protege since his car is probably obd2 since it is a 96. As far as the transmission goes, it will bolt up as long as you use the stock flywheel from the B6DE, but the computer controls for it probably wouldnt work unless someone has access to part numbers or the transmissions themselves. I know the 96-98 protege used an f series manual trans and I couldnt see them using a different auto for the protege and the mx3.

It doesn't matter if the motor is OBDI or ODBII, it's all about the sensors. It doesn't matter anyway, a BP won't run right without the right ECU and MAF, and you need to do some rewiring for the MAF for the DOHC harness.

Yes the manual trans will work fine (it's just too short geared for the BP power), but this guy has an automatic. The auto trans is weak, i doubt a B6 trans would hold up to a BP for long. I could see them using a different auto on the Protege/Escort BP than the B6 auto from an 323/MX3.

Keeping everything exactly how it is would be no work at all.
