205/40/R17 on 17's?

Post by adamowich2613 »

I have a 1993 mazda mx3 4cly, and i am looking at some 205/40/R17's i don't have the rims yet but the tires are new and a really good deal. If i get some 17" rims with these tires, will they mount up without rubbing or will i need spacers? Thanks.

>current wheels are stock 14" alloys with a 185/65/R14 tire if that helps
>car isn't lowered!

I need a response soon please.

I'm running 215/40/17's, not an issue, therefore you will absolutely be able to turn lock to lock and never rub with 205's.

I too have a 205/40/17 on a 17x7 rim... offset comes into play somewhere right? (i'm a n00b when it comes to tires and rims...)

It does, but it would have to be some unusually high offset to rub those.

Why not run more rubber your going to realy feel the road and pot holes. I've got 215 50 17 they fit and have enough rubber they will ride like stock but change my gear ratio, I should rev a little lower on the highway now.

Your tire size isn't going to alter your transmission :confused2: I hope you meant to say the speedo

Well it won't alter your tranny but it will alter you effective gear ratio because you're increasing the size of the wheel, so you get lower revs/mph at the same actual speed. Just have to remember you're going faster than your speedo says you are!

Does it even make such a dramatic difference?
