i think im stuck

First off, my car is a 94 escort with a KLDE.This is the 4th v6 swap ive done.Im using a 93 gs engine harness, kl48ecu, and kl02 vaf.Heres the problems im facing.

The car starts very hard.I have to tinker with the gas pedal to get it to slowly start up.It usually takes me about 15 seconds of cranking before it comes to life.Im also experiencing a 5400ish rpm redline. The car has a 255 pump and an aeromotive regulator set at 36psi WOT.Is this too low? Id usually be able to figure this car out by myself, but the main problem im facing is that my car will only show my CEL codes when im cranking the car.It wont show codes when i just turn the key to on, i have to crank it to see the codes flash.Ive never dealt with this type of problem before and its kinda new to me.My CEL light is run right off the CEL output off the ecu(grey/red striped wire).I rigged up a 12V LED with constant power and ran the ground to the ECU wire. Its worked on my last swap just fine, but this car doesnt want to be nice to me.Any ideas why it would only show codes when i crank? Id assume its something in the engine harness itself, since the CEL light is wired off the ecu, rather than in the cluster.Im kinda stuck, not being able to read my codes and haveing a car run like garbage.I was told to just unhook the starter and crank it to get the codes, but id like to trouble shoot the car the right way so the CEL light works like it should.Any ideas?

I would start by getting rid of the kl48 ecu, its gonna cause issues. That is for a 94 car with a 94 wiring harness (which is alot different then the 93 harness, more so then ppl think). Get a kl01 or kl07 DE ecu and try that first with that harness you have now in the car and see what happens.

2nd, 36psi is 7-10psi too low.

I would try asking shaodome @ probetalk about this, as he is an expert when it comes to strange wiring.

ok guys, thanks for the help so far.I messed with car today and this is where im at.I adjusted the fuel pressure to 46psi WOT(vaccum unplugged from fpr), is that correct? Second, i tryed another kl48 ecu(known to be good) and now the CEL light worked for me.I checked my codes and besides the bypassed egr codes, i only got code 9(coolant temp sensor).I decided to check out my old ecu, and realized it had one circuit that was fried. It looks to me, that it was the pin for the CEL light. So i ended up just cutting the wire, rather than tap splicing into the CEL wire. Now i can check my codes, but i ended up pulling my current kl38 ecu, and it burned the same exact circuit as the last one.The car doesnt start any easier, and it still kind of runs crappy. My car is eating up ecu's, not sure where to turn next.Im loosing faith in this car day by day, please help

Look over the whole harness for shorts, sounds like you have one somewhere.

if the coolant temp sensor is infact bad, the car will run crappy with fuel problems...It seems like you have a few more fish to fry other than that but the part is cheap.
