I have an mx-3 gs stock. It quit running yeserday, with no fire. I tried the HEI mod and I still get no fire.. Checked the coil and it is within specs... What else controls the fire? It is listing no cel codes. I am at a loss.

Are you getting fuel?

Did you test for spark at all?

Has the car been running strange at all lately?

First you check for spark, if you got spark then you check for fuel, if you have fuel and spark then you check compression, if you dont have compression then you may have a cracked head or block.

Also, you said you did the HEI mod, did you use an external coil? I couldn't get mine to work unless I ran +12v straight to the coils + terminal, don't know why, but the car wont spark without it.

Checked fuel....OK there
Checked spark.. No spark.... THought is was igniter, but the hei mod is still not firing the coil.

I think it may be the cam position sensor.

Oh yea... before it quit it was running pretty good then went to go up a hill and poof... started bucking then went dead.

Are you sure you did the HEI mod right? Did you cut the wire and rip out the strap as pointed out here:

I cut the wire to pin 3... But i just went and tested and here is what I found. pin 3 (g on hei) never drops below 3 volts so pin ( c on hei) never fires coil..

I get voltage from 3-5 volts when engine is cranking on pin 3 but never a zero voltage...
