Brake fluid

Post by teach »

I need to top up my brake fluid. I have some DOT 3 but it says for ABS. Can I use this to top up even if my brakes aren't ABS?

I think that is "ABS safe" fluid more than "only for ABS". But, for a couple bucks, why not buy another bottle and have piece of mind?

If I'm correct, all dot-3 brake fluid says "ABS Safe." I am like.. 90% sure that you can use any DOT-3 brake fluid, as long as it is indeed DOT-3

dot 3 is dot 3 and most of it is synthetic
it will enter change no matter the circumstances...but really..i think you should drain your system and put dot 5 in there

higher boiling point
doesn't absorb water so it doesn't crap out as easily
that and it doesn't harm paint for when you make an oops
but i mainly used it because when you mix that with steel braided lines you have virtually no play in the hydrolics

hmm that's interesting... i knew about the higher boiling point, but not about the other stuff.

is it easy to switch from dot-3 to dot-5? I am in process of getting a few things (mainly: exhaust, new fuel pump to be on the safe side, a few "goodies"), but my boss can get me a good deal on S.S lines, and if I do take him up on his offer, i'm just wondering if it would be a smart thing to switch over to dot-5.

drain the old
insert the new
bleed the brakes till you see the new fluid color
