Hey guys I'm looking into buying my uncle's '93 MX-3 soon. I'm just checking out all of the good info here and hopefully I'll go through with the buy since these cars are very rare where I'm from and I love the body style. I used to have a 91 Ford Probe GL until it was T-boned over a year ago. I planned on buying a second gen Probe GT and doing the JDM KLZE swap but now that I'm offered this car, I might just go for it since the ZE's are compatible with the MX-3s. I hope I can be some help around here after learning a few things and understanding the cars better which shouldn't be too much of a problem since the Probes were similar to the Mazda MX-6's and 626's pertaining to having the exact same frame, engine, and drivetrain. Currently I'm driving an 85 Jeep CJ7 but I still want a fun project car to keep me busy. Sorry for the rambling guys, I'm just really excited to get started here.

Justin.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm assuming your uncles car is the v6 (GS) version? If it's the 4 cyl, it will be a bit more difficult to drop a ZE in. Otherwise, best of luck! While you're at it, upgrade the suspension with Escort ZX2 S/R struts, and some nice springs (I went with ground control coilovers)

Welcome! I'm glad I don't have to post my usual "Use the SEARCH!" You're going to love your car. If it is 4cyl, you can still get 300hp out of it.

Thanks guys for the welcome, I'm going to look at it this weekend. It hasn't been driven for about three years and is currently garaged so I'll most likely have to get it running for awhile and check fuel, oil, tranny fluid and gaskets for leaks. Anything else I should have to worry about with a garaged vehicle? BTW, I'm not 100% positive, but I think it is the GS, because I don't think he would have gotten the 4 banger. I'll check it out and post some pics if I get it.

I know what you mean man, alot of people ask questions without checking out the archives and it does get annoying but I even sometimes screw up because I want "new info" lmfao

Remove the plugs pour a little oil into each cly. Then roll it over for 10-15 seconds to get the oil pressure up. Then install the plugs and I bet if fires up within 2 secs. Your brakes may be seized. If so compressing the calipers with a C clamp may fix them. Drive it easy at first like you would a new car, give things time to work in. Cheers

Welcome, I just had a Second Gen PGT and did the Ze swap with all the bolt ons. Ill tell you first hand my mx-3 with the same ZE motor is tons faster than that probe. I can't believe the difference. Go with the mx-3, most parts are cheaper too. :)
