Swap?

Post by erixon »

Hey guys... I've got a 94 Escort GT, and a 96 MX-3 RS. I was just wondering how easy the swap is from the escort to the mx-3, and what parts may be interchangable on the engines. The escort has over 300,000kms... but I have my doubts if it is the original engine, it looks so new, no rust spots, nothing, burns a litre of oil per 3800 kms or so. My mazda was owned my a couple with a combined weight of about 600 lbs, and they didnt keep up the maintenance on it. It still has a lot to work out, that motor has 224,000 kms(4 cyl. DOHC), but is fixable from what I can see... Any advice as to what my best course of action should be? Thanks guys.

are you wanting to put the bp in the mx-3 and the b6 in the protege? or just pull the bp and put it in the mx-3? either way when the engine is out you will wan to do a full rebuild: replace all gaskets, replace the piston rings, all bearings, etc. you can buy miata stock 10:1 pistsons i think pretty cheap and that will give you a little extra power or just replace your stock ones with another set of protege ones and boost it later if you want more power that way. either way when you swap the engines do as much as you can to them while they are out of the car cause it is way easier than pulling them later again to do more work
