Places to find a KLZE

IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD, PLEASE PM THE INFO AND I WILL ADD IT TO THE LIST - this way the list doesnt get lost under a bunch of posts. here is a list of all my research i did looking for my KLZE and i will be adding to this as i find out more.

the list of sites for JDM motors is what i believe to be every site there is for JDM motors. I spent 6 or 7 hours scouring the internet for JDM motors and obviously for the best price. I was thankful to find 2 places in Texas that imported JDMs, one of which is only about 10 miles from my house. the rest are either in Canada, California or somewhere on the east coast. a few of the sites had flat rated shipping under 200$ USD - while a lot of them had ridiculous shipping charges, a few sites even charged about half of the engine price. be careful and be aware that if you are having it shipped to your house and you dont have an engine hoist - they will charge you additionally for taking it off the truck for you - this is called a lift-gate fee and can be very high, around $100 or more.

i hope you guys find this info useful::

IMPORTANT!
From 1991-1993 ALL K series V6 engines came with the same sensor connectors and the same sensor locations, from 1994 and up they changed the sensor connectors and changed the location of the coolant sensor.
If you have a 93 MX-3 and you get a 91-93 KLZE everything will be the same, if you have a 94 MX-3 and you get a 94 and up KLZE everything will be the same. If you have a 93 MX-3 and you get a 94 and up KLZE then you will have to swap your sensors(crank, knock, coolant,) and tap a hole into the coolant pipe for the 1 sensor.

There are only a few exceptions, a few cars in 1994 may have come with the old engine (1991-1993 obd1) and the related connectors. 1994 was the change over year and mazda probably kept using the old setup until they ran out of stock, then they switched over to the new setup. 95+ are obd2 all you have to do is switch the outlet pipe for the coolant from your K8 or drill a hole for the coolant sensor.

If you have a 94 MX-3 and get a pre-94 KLZE engine, you'll have hard time finding an ECU that's properly configured for your 94 coolant sensor setup. There are work-arounds though. (thread links coming soon)

Make sure the head codes are KL31-101 and KL31-1A1 ONLY - any other head codes will NOT be a 200+hp KLZE - it CAN be curved neck or straight neck.

Hotshot headers are no longer made.

Priced around $900 for KLZE.
Whisper got his there. They're local, so he can always go check the motor out, before they ship to anyone who's not local.

Couple of things to add:

1) If you have a 94 MX-3 and get a pre-94 KLZE engine, you'll have hard time finding an ECU that's properly configured for your 94 coolant sensor setup. There are work-arounds though.

2) Hotshot headers are no longer made.

3) Another supplier of JDM engines is Foreign Engines, Inc

remove tigerengines from your list of engine importers, they have been caught selling klde's as ZE's

ive heard alot of bad stuff about the tiger engine corp. like selling rusty and dirty cams and greasy a** engines. Definetly would not consider them.

Yeah, I've heard they're sketchy as well. Although I have no personal experience with them, so take that for what you will.

im very glad that my list is proving to be useful :D as far as the complaints about tiger - i will leave them on the list until someone who has actually bought a motor from them and had a bad experience posts it on the thread. i appreciate the feedback and heads up about tiger, but i want to fair and not single them out just yet. i hope you understand. and please if you do have a first hand experience with any of the places on the list - good or bad - lets hear it. i had a great experience with jdm engine corp and i would suggest them to anyone.

In the important thing include that 95+ are obd2 and are alittle harder to swap in a KLZE, and add links on this topic to.

Clutches: None of those clutchs will work, they will slip after a few thousand miles.... you need to get an upgraded clutch when putting in a KLZE.

all you have to do is switch the outlet pipe thing for the coolant from your K8... or drill a hole for the coolant sensor.

I have a 95 gs that is OBD I ....

and for torontojdm.com;

I purchased a motor about 8 months ago or something, I live in Nova Scotia Canada, and at the time there was no importers for jdm motors.. lots of dealers.. but nobody had any on the floor.. So I found Torontojdm to be one of the least expensive and great to deal with.. I inquired about a Curved neck ze.. they sent me about 15 photos of the motor.. compression test of each cylinder along with the block casting number to varify the motor when it showed up.. everything went great.. although the motor I recived had the kl-1a1 kl-101 heads... Just make sure you have the proper head code!!!

oh the motor cost me 1000$ I think shipped to my door.... not to bad considering the dealers where I lived wanted $1700!!!!!! and half up front befor the motor even showed up!

Good List.

I ordered my motor from JDM source. So far I've stripped it down to the block/heads/valves and everything seems pretty solid. The guy on the phone can be a bit of a prick and sounds a little slick, but I think I got a good motor. He also seemed to know quite a bit about the ZE swap in MX-3s.

There is one little scam with JDM source that I really don't like. They list the ZE as 775USD..... but if you are in Canada it is all of a sudden $975CDN even though the dollars are really close right now. Shipping to Saskatoon Saskatchewan was about $140 since I picked it up at the Canadian Freightways Depot.

David.

Hello, to all the mx-3'ers, my name is alex and I live in rome, italy i have an mazda mx3 95' obd1. This is the third mx-3 ... in the past, I already had other 2 and now finally i'm tryng to swap my old k8 with a klze. I would ask you some information about the klze because here in italy nobody knows this engine. Viewing this forum I noticed that here you know it very well. and i want to tell.. .thank you!!!!!!!! to all the guys for these very important informations..for more than 1,5 years I'm looking for a reputable seller because many of them sell millenia's engine skrije it for klze but in reality it has 170 hp and the kl-01 cams.. actually i bought an klze straight neck on ebay from ENGINESUS hoping to give "200"hp at my car but now i'm afraid to receive "200"kg of rust... wieving also the probetalk,mx-6 forums i've seen some pictures of these engines without the valvle cover and someone are very terrible!!! the sellers claim 35-40 k but in my opinion the cams and the head seems has over 100-150k!!! rust everywhere!! and i'm waiting for the payment... do you knows Bob of enginesus and the products they sell on ebay? I can trust?. i bought the staight neck version in order to have for sure the kl-31 cams but i know that this intake manifond don't work good cause the mx3 battery's location, but before the engine's purchase i bought also the kl47 curved neck intake manifold with square port/runners from a private seller of brooklyn.. can i swap the straight intake with the kl47 curved neck intake manifolds without problems? Unfortunately i have to pay twice when i do an false step because i live in ROME ...please help me!!!!!!!!! thanks a lot.

Thanks for the info. Tiger Japanese in Toronto Canada was the place I dealt with. Unless your 100% sure of what you looking they're not really big on helping you. Most of the engines I saw looked pretty beat up with broken pulleys and other parts eg alternators smashed.

Edit I have a 96 MX-3 and my Ze is like 92-93 and everything works fine. Of course I'm left with an extra coolant sensor and the O2 sensors are different but other than that it was plug and play.
