I was under the impression that you had to or it was alot easier if you did but you may be able to jimmy it in there. Good luck.

Its definately easier to install the header if the motor is out. However, you can do it with the motor in. Take off the intake manifold and get the thing on some ramps and you can do it, but its tough and will take time. Make sure you have a swivel neck for your socket wrench.

Take off the intake manifold
Why do you have to take off the intake manifold? Granted I did my headers with the engine out of the car.. but does removing the intake give better access to the top bolts somehow or did you mean exhaust manifold? :D

So you can get at the bolts easier.. Its not to hard to take off the IM

If you remove the intake manifold it will allow for easy access to the rear. When I installed mine last year I did it in the car and never removed the manifold..I don't think it was soo hard..just need some nice swivel wrenches that ratchet.

So possible to replace headers with engine in and intake manifold on? Or best to take the IM off?

its not that hard to do it with the engine in the car... no need to take off the intake...

if i were you i would try it without removing anything and if you cant then remove the IM...

Once installed your exhaust will need to have about 9" cut off. Like everyone says removing the intake takes about 5mins. Place something over the opening in case you drop something into the engine. lol

I would think it would be pita trying to remove frozen exhaust manifold bolts unless you take engine out
