ok, since ive had my car (its been about 3 months) the cruise control has not worked and the highway driving im doing would be more enjoyable with it. So id like to find out whats wrong and get it going again.

So far ive had a look at the diaphram and checked the vacum hoses and there were no cracks or kinks in the hoses. I also checked the diaphram with vacum(via my mouth, lol) and when i suck in and apply vacum i feel air being let in, now im wondering are these saposed to hold vacum or not? Im going to do a little more investigating tonight so ill fill you in. Thanks.

Everybody who wants it, I have scanned in the Cruise Control section from a 1992 Mazda MX-3 Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual... It has a good deal of information on different things to try if your cruise control does not work. Email me and I'll send it to you... :D

so i got it to work, it's just a little bit of a japeniese puzzle. I didnt know that you had to turn the cruise button to on then press the steering wheel button. I thaught that turning the cruise button on would turn the cruise control on.

Anyways, my stupid mistake and thanks alot for the help.

Are your guys cars automatic or sticks. I'm sure that it only works in 5th gear.

ya mines stick and ive tried it in other gears and it didnt seem to work so i also think its only in 5th gear that it engages.

That doesn't make any sence, our tranny's only have a reverse and neutral switches, there's no way for our cars to know what gear it's in, so it shouldn't care....but I know for a fact that I can downshift from 5th to 4th (I dont remember if i tried 3rd) while cruise is engaged and it works.

ok, i was just satting something i had tried only once. Maybe i didnt hold the speed long enough for it to engage. Ill try tommorow on my way to work.

Al right, so i tested my cruise today in different gears and this is what i came up with. Ive tested 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. they all seem to work as long as the there is rougly more than 2.5k RPM seeing as how its vacum operated.

Just thaught someone would like to know. But i didnt try first, cuz who would use cruise control in first gear???

ok - lets go the bonus round question!!!!

I have cruise and it works fine except...

There are Steering wheel switchs: On/Coast and Accel/Resume.

The On / Coast works fine, but the Accel / Resume switch seems to be a dummy switch? There is an obvious "click" on actuating the On/Coast button but no click for the accel / resume buttong - it feel like its not even a switch...

do I have a bad accel/resume switch? or does the MX3 Cruise not have accel / resume capability (in which case I'd assume the 2 switch cluster is a common part with another car (mx6?) which does have accel/resume function?

( I won't get intop the fact that I hardly use cruise because I am 6'3" and using cruise means foot off gas and that means my long ash legs make my knees wanna hit the steering wheel - LOLZ)
