hey guys, THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF MX3 AND MX6 BRAKES ARE THE SAME
so yeah, i own an mx6(ford probe to be more exact) AND, we can put protege 5 calipers and pads on the back of our brake system. they fit right in, and you get more braking power beacause P5 pads are wider/longer/thinker which ever way you are looking at it, it get's more of the rotor surface. and calipers are bigger too, so you get a much nicer look

adn again this will onyl work if mx3 and mx6 has the same brakes
my bad didn't do research before posting

first of all you dont need larger calipers in the rear beause its the rear & there is no rearweught behind th wheels, finally you have to change the portioning valve

That makes no sence at all. Just becase there is no weight back there doesnt mean they dont provide stoping power.

And based on the bore size of the calipers i dont think you need to switch out the valve either if your car already has rear disc.....

i'm getting an adjustable proportioning valve

Dont get me wrong, there always nice but in this case not required at all.

in my case it's a good idea and will be a huge help but yes, not necessary

i think i saw someone on pt bolt up subie 2 pot calipers in the front of the mx6 a while back. i cant remember if it bolted rite up tho but i think it did.

either way probes n mx3' dont have the same calipers. even the 4cyl mx3 and the v6 have different front and rear brakes

Same basic design and thus bolt up the same. (the 4 bangers and V6 MXs)

I may take the rear caliper off my p5 and test bolt it to my mx3, i dont really want to case then i gotta bleed s--- but i got a feeling its the only way this information can be confirmed.

Does anyone know the bore of the mx3 vs the p5 rear caliper?

i know the pads are bigger, what about the disc its self?

You do not want increased brakepower in the rear, atleast not unless you got better braking upfront first.

I believe it`s 70/30 (f/r) brake bias or something.
The rear brakes is almost just keeping things steady.
Increasing the brakepower in the rear might result in the rear end starting to behave weird.

what if you've added extra weight and power in the rear? wouldn't improving the brakes be a good idea then?

actually, it is the same basic design but the calipers are not interchangable. pepboys gave me a pair of 4cyl calipers which did bolt up but it was not letting the rotor seat properly which was only solved by exchanging them for v6 calipers. 13v and 22v are the different calipers for this chassis and are not interchangable.

steeb ... are you saying the front mx-3 calipers are not the same as the rear or that front GS calipers are not the same as front RS calipers?

i think the 92/93's aren't the same but the 94 and up's are

The 22V-13 and the 22V-14 are the basically the same caliper except the -13 was used on the 323 H/B with a 1.6 SOHC or smaller engine and some of the MX-3 with the small rotors. The -14 were used on the 323's with the BP or B5 DOHC, Escorts and the MX-3 GS but many of the early production GS can also be found with the -13 calipers and small rotors.
