Is it just me...

Is it just me or does this seem unreasonable. I took some parts to a local Auto repair place. The place is actually a friend of mine's dad's business; my friend works there as well and does the paperwork, and billing and appointents and stuff. Anyway, I took both of my front control arms to them to have the bushings pushed out, and new bushings pushed in. I also took them both my front hubs, to have the wheel bearings replaced. I supplied all the parts, the bushings and new wheel bearings. They charged me for 4 hours labor @ $214. I was shocked as I thought it would be a 30 minute - 60 minute job. Does this seem unreasonable to any else, or is it just me? Anyone else had this done, what were you charged?

just two front control arms and you supplied the materials? Then it does sound bit expensive. It is expensive to press in bearings/bushings at the shop. I had my axle seals done on my 68 Charger and it was over $300 but for everything.

there's no way that it should have taken them 4 hours. I used my girlfriend's dad's 20 ton press at his house and it took me maybe an hour and half- 2 hours tops to press all 4 out and put the new SRD ones in... and I had no idea what i was doing... LOL
that sucks...sorry that happened to you!

They did the front bushings for both control arms, so two bushings pressed out, and new pressed in, and wheel bearings in my hubs. I took them the control arms and hubs, and supplied the replacement parts. Guess its not that unreasonable, just I'm low on cash, and honestly only thought it would take em an hour tops. Expecting to pay $20-$40, and they tell me $200, it was a little unexpected, so I got stressed.

what do you expect for 50+ an hour labor that most shops charge now, you would of been better off taking it to a machine shop, you would of paid 50-100 total

eh that seems high to just push them out and put new ones in... 1 hour is the most it should have taken.
I paid $40 to do my front wheel bearings and my friends shop did my CA bushings for about $10

Seems unreasonable to me. I dont trust any mechanics so I usually watch them work to make sure they aint screwing around. I had my exhaust done and I sat there the whole time, they were always trying to go off task so I would go out and start messing around under my car until they saw me and asked what I was doing. Then I told them I wanted my exhaust done haha.

i took my from hub to a garage to have the brake rotor taken off and the bearing pressed out...
i watched him use a 20ton press to pop the rotor off which sounded like a gun.. then he pressed out the bearing...
took 1/2 and i paid 20bux and a coffee...

I'm surprised no one else mentioned this:
The shop is owned by your buddy's dad and they charged you full price?
Are you sure this guys is a friend?
And for comparisson - I just had front wheel bearings replaced and my local shop subcontracted the pressing and charged me $30 each.
