I decided to start a thread on my car because it's going to be a long project.

I was rebuilding the B6 to turbo it after but after I made a list of all the parts and all the prices I thought it would be a lot cheaper to buy a BPT and swap that in instead. Here's the list of part I made to build a reliable
B6 turbo...prices are some what accurat

PROJECT MX-3 1.6 Turbo 400HP

PART # 1 (engine building)

-block glass beaded
-honed 80$
-head shaved 20$
-3 angles job 200$
-valves guides 150$
-waterpump 100$
-pistons 500$
-rods 500$
-stainless valves 350$
-valve springs 200$
-cams 450$
-cam gears 200$
-timing belt 80$
-ARP Head Studs torqued to 70lb/ft. 110$
-Fel Pro MLS or Cometic MLS head gasket 100$
-shim a NEW oil pump 0.200" (relief spring seat sits on cotter pin) will
give you the proper oil pressure to keep parts from scrubing and lifters
from deflating at high loads 150$
-new bearings 50$
-Clutchnet Red 3X Pressure Plate
Clutchnet Red 6puck sprung hub disc, Yellow Fibre-Carbon, or Yellow Kevlar 300$
sprung hub discs

TOTALPART # 1 = 3540$

PART # 2 (ECU Tunning)
-Microtech LT-8x Standalone from Corksport w/ 3-bar map sensor or haltech 1000$
-EGT Gauge
Boost Gauge
PLX Wideband 02 Gauge 215$
-Accel 300+ Ignition w/ coil 230$
-Accel 300+ Plug wires or Magnecore KV85 Plug wires 70$
-NGK V-Power Plugs
-Whalbro 255lph High Pressure fuel pump 150$

TOTAL PART # 2 1665$

PART # 3 (Boosting)

-Garrett GT2871R with a 63ish A/R exhaust housing (I recommend external
wastegates & dump to atmosphere...better boost control and higher peak HP
output) 1500$
-Tial 38mm or 44mm wastegate with atleast a 2 1/4" dump tube 200$
-3" exhaust....or larger after the firewall w/ 3" down pipe 500$
-The largest intercooler you can afford (Corksport has the hook up) 200$
-2.5" IC Pipes 200$
-Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator with 1:1 boost ref. rising rate 80$
-650cc fuel injectors 550$
-some meaty tires....unless your in a burn out competition

TOTAL PART # 3 3230$

Project total = 8435$

compared to I found a BPT from a GTR for 1800$

Not exactly the best compareson as a bpt isn't going to be close to 400hp unless you do what you had planed to do with the B6. And no matter what you do it's hard to quadruple an engine's output and call it reliable.

with the right tunning it would be reliable enought

I was starting a list for the BPT and yeah it's true to get 400hp no matter what you have to spend some $$$$

But atleast the BPT would be a bether platform to start with and I could be boosted for cheaper.

and I forgot to add I would get more POWER for my money.

If i get the bpt I would do a port & polish, get some after market valves springs, get a cometic head gasket and some arp head bolts and I would get the haltech standalone and it should be good to add more boost.

also anyone know what kind of blow off valve and wast gate come with a GTR and how much psi the stock turbo on the gtr pushes

i use a N/A BP thats what iam running and iam at 20psi as a daily, why sink $1500-2000 on a bpt that at any given time can crap out on u. rather than spend 300-800 on a N/A BP can handle the power and are cheaper to replace should engine failure happen. check out the setup i went with. anyways TRP has made 451whp@25psi on a stock BP-DE hell he has even made 334whp@25psi on a stock 1.6 miata motor.

a Garrett GT2871R will not get u 400whp i don't care what they say. iam running with a SC61 on my (stock internal) BP turbo setup.

I got my bp from the junkyard for 450$ 2 years ago. i have another as a spare $350. I never had a JDM BPT GTR engine and why spend $1500-2000 on a jdm engine that could take a s--- any day. anything can happen to the bp i have. it was from a 90-94 protege LX like i said BPT is overrated

any one else has an opinion?
Should I keep on build a B6 or get a BP from a first generation proteger and turbo that or should I get the GTR

both my b6 need to be rebuilt cuz they both have over
250 000 km

what makes the BP bether then the B6 else then the BP is a 1.8

are u using a dohc or sohc b6?

the bpt can be found for as cheap as the klze it is more worth it to built a bp than purchase a bpt

I have 2 B6DE DOHC engins with over 200K km on them so they would need to be rebuilt befor i boost it, I already started working on one of them cuz that's what I was planing on doing...I ported and polished one of the cylinder heads but I though maybe it would be bether to just buy a BPT from a GTR but lime green sais it's not worth pay 1800$ on an engine when you can get a bp from here for around 400$...I mean you never know what you might get...I would get a gasket kit off ebay and rebuild it all...change the rings and get a good head gasket, port and polish it
this is why I started this thread I want to make sure I make every thing right cuz it's my first build ever
