1.8 with 1.6 engine swap

Post by bornracing06 »

I have 2 cars. 1 is a 93 MX3 with a 1.6 the other is a 94 with a 1.8 DOHC. I race circle track and want to put the 1.8 automatic motor in my 1.6 5 speed car. Will there be any unexpected isuues withthe swap or can it even be done??? All help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Welcome!

You will be doing a lot more then just swapping engines...Everything is possible, it all depends on how much time and money you are willing to spend. Try the search feature, I know this has been covered before. Heres a link to a relevant and recent thread http://www.mx-3.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=55799

just so that u know both 92-93 and 94-96 come with a 1.6L engine just one is a sohc and the other a dohc. the only 1.8L engines that the mx-3 had were all 1.8 V6 engines from 92-96.

if u find a B6 on ur (block head)1.8 94 model mx-3 than some one lied to u if u find a well 2 letter engine code on ur (block head) then some took the time to do a engine swap and none of the 4cly models ever came with a 1.8 dohc engine.

so look around and post what engine code u have a B6 or BP better yet take a pic so that we can see for ourself. laters guy
