I can vouch for that.

I asked at Mazda, they had a display of an old dirty filter and a new one, I asked where I would find it on my car and they said there isn't one.

well that sucks as I thought it would be dirty as it stinks pretty bad sometimes (like skunk, etc)

My boss said his car started to smell hella bad once and he couldn't get rid of the smell no matter how well he cleaned the car. Turnned out 3 mice had got sucked into the intake and died.

And ya.. I hate not having a filter. If I turn the blower on high, every once and a while I'd get slapped with a leaf. I'm kind of embarresed to use it with other people in the car as its aqward when your passenger gets a bunch of feathers shot at them (which has happened).

would it be possible to add one i've considered that cause i didn't think there was one and would like that... the dash is always getting dusty the day after i clean it cause there is nothing to filter the incoming air

you could probably add one. there is a metal "bucket" going from outside to inside. i think you will need to remove the hood, window cowl, then the black plastic peice with the funnel built in it. that will get you to the spot, dont know how well a filter will work though.

I thought there was a sponge type of filter near the end of the air intake tract. By the trap door area where the cable for the hot/cold lever attaches to????
