CEL Codes

I ran the codes thru my CEL the other day, and got an 04, 17, and 24. The first one has to do with the cam/crank position sensor, and the other 2 have to do with 02 sensors. "LHO2S (RHO2S) inversion error" What exactly is an inversion error and does this mean I need a new cam/ crank sensor and O2 sensors? Thanks alot in advance.

codes 17 n 24 both indicate o2 sensor voltage is not changing enuph during crusing speeds.
o2 voltage should osliate up to 8vdc down to 3 volts during crusing speeds . idle o2 voltage is irelivent .
and at about 50+% throttle o2 vdc should be above 7-8volts.
lack of inversion means your o2 sensor voltage is not changing for whatever reason. your probably running very rich or lean from a torn vaf boot
anything that will cause a big time lean or rich conditon
code 4 no ne1 signal i am fairly certain the engine will not run or stay running with out the ne1 signal. so if yor car is dying and not restaring untill cool you probably do need a distrubtor. but it may be as simple as a diry connector.

Thanks max, that explains a bit. My e-test came in high in NO ppm on the driving speed test but under at idle. So I guess it's not necessarily the O2 sensor, but what makes it change. I'll look for things that may make it run rich or lean, and where would I find the VAF boot? Not too sure what to think of the code 4 though, the car starts, runs, and drives well under just about any conditions. Thanks again.

I just checked the online manual and found out what the vaf is, right by the air box, right? I'll take a good look at it. Also, I changed the plugs the other day and though the old ones were pretty well shot, they showed no sign of either an overly rich or lean burn. Which brings up another question. It was running Bosch standard type plugs (I just put in a new set of NGK platinum + wires) that the electrodes were down so far they were about double the proper gap. All cylinders looked like they were hitting healthy, not rich, lean, or oily. Could the fact I had old plugs and wires in it cause the NO ppm to be high? Thanks

are yor refering to NOXppm or HCppm .
but high CO is cause bu a rich mixture .
high HC is from anything that makes the motor run rough rich ,lean ,&missing
high NOX is from high combustion temps like lean mixture or overheahing or no egr function.
earlyer i failed to mention the liklly possabilty that both your o2 sensors are junk. if the car runs good and plugs are clean & not white ither than just replace both o2s it wont be a waist even if it dosnt fix it. fresh o2s make the ecms life alot easer.
vaf boot starts at the throtle body and goes to the vaf sensor
any air leak after the vaf will cause a lean condition
or all the air that goes into the engine must got thruogh the vaf sensor
and vacume leak = lean
rich is harder to do
but a bad engine coolant tempature sensor will do it
and a clogged or pinched fuel return line will cause high fuel pressure & a rich mixture.

o yea disregaurd the code 4 for now. clear codes.
and if code returns 2 more times then worry about it.

I cleared the codes a couple hours ago, went for a drive for about a half hour at running temp, and no codes have returned. I think I will go ahead and change the O2 sensors like you said, as I've got no idea of how many km are on them. All I wantfor Christmas is to get thru this damn e-test

The NO (whatever that is, I'm not sure) was still high on the road speed part of the test. Everything was passing at the idle test. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the tune-up has brought it in line. I'll know Tuesday, that'll be my first chace to get it back in there.
