If the cel blinks 5 times with the same amount of pause inbetween each blink, followed by no quicker pauses. It is reading code 05, which is the knock sensor. You can find a quick list of common codes and how to read them properly in the v6 faq or an even better list in the online manual.

Thanks for the reply. Meaning its not the 02 sensor. Would it cause the check engine light to come on? And what purpose does it serve? Again Thanks.

Well whejn my o2 sensors where bad I was not getting a code. I replaced them and problems went away. You wont always get codes if a part is ready to die. Only when they are completely deactivated. Knock sensor goes out at around hmm well me at 200 thousand miles. Costs new 100 dllrs (in my city) at autozone. The probe gt knock sensor is the same as k8 by the way. I checked part numbers. Autozone will say it doesnt but it does.

Thanks for the info.....I'm at the process of selling my car and don't want the next owner to deal with this problem. The car works great other then the engine light coming on every now and then so I will check the wiring first and then move on to replacing the knock sensor.

Hi,pals,My name's Pepo and I'm a mechanic for Moto-Pfohe,an Eastern Europe Ford,Volvo,Jaguar and Mazda dealer.About the Mazda's sometimes they just created and DTC(Diagnostic Troubleshoote Codes) without reason. So before u start to worry what's with the car i will tell you how to erase the codes by youself and u don't need a WDS or some diagnostic machine.Erase first, and if the fault is not coming again-u'll thank to me:).If there's faulty code again u can sendme e-mail to marine_explorer@yahoo.com.I'll be glad to help you cuz i'm into cars with all of my heart. So let me tell you how to erase the faulty memory in ECM.
ERASING
*Ensure ignition switched OFF
*Disconnect battery earth lead for at least 30 sec.
*Depress brake pedal for at least 20 sec.
*Reconnect battery earth lead
*Repeat checking procedureto ensure no dataremains in ECM fault memory
This is from me for now.Write to me .I'll be glad to help

yea dude clear your codes and sell the thing.
if you do have a reocuring code 5 and the knock sensor is pluged in then let the next guy fix it. thats y it is sold used as is.
to replace the knock sensor you musy pull the entire intake ant the coolant pipes under the intake then get a 15/16 wrench down there and if it wont get on the sensor then you can buy a socket and cut a slit down 1 side like an o2 sensor socket.
its alot of work for a minor problem.
JUDGE ME ALL YOU WANT
