New Engine?

Post by SpikeDerailed »

I found a BP engine from a FordEscort GT for sale. I am about to snatch it, but I wanna make sure it the pre '96 engine. Is there something specific I should look for to differentiate the pre '96 from the post '96.

The valve cover is seperate from the plastic timing belt cover. The tranny is still tranny is still attached to it(so I know its maual), although I dont plan on getting that right now. The distro is a 4 wire setup, but I heard I can switch that out with my current one(93 soch 3 wire style)...this true?

I wanna have this thing in my car and running by around August 8th. I do plan on doing the necessary replacments on the engine before swapping it. New thermo, timing belt, oil pump, head gaskets, ect.

i don't think they made escort gt's past 1995, they switched to the escort ZX2 i believe.

i'm sure someone knows the block #s if you want to double check though.

'96 was the last year for the escort gt. I found a code on the head today when looking at it...BP05-7-2
