?'s about cat-back system for V6

Post by jazzmanmx3 »

Im getting ready to do a new cat-back exhast set up but I was wondering if anyone knows the best cat. to use and what set up would be the best so I dont get screwed in spending alot of money on a "weed eater" sound... I've been working very hard on the body work to get the look I was wanting for 3 months now and she needs exhast to fit my new rear bumper. Please feel free to check my cardomain.com site out to see all the work Ive put into her and let me know what you think  I have some pic's on here for you but Im still waitting to get painted so dont mind the primer- Thanks :D

looks good so far how about you just give it to me :)

To be honest with you do not waste the money on a cat back system, if you plan on doing a swap, it will be useless in the future, you can take it to a local exhaust shop and they should'nt charge you anymore than 150 to run 2.5" mandrel bent pipe from the cat to the rear and you can pick up a muffler from 50-150 depending on what your looking for.

This will save you cash in the long run because if you decide to upgrade to 2.5 kl/klze you'll want to upgrade to 2.5" pipe.

My recomendations:

Go ahead and get a set of SS auto-chrome headers/obx you can get them off ebay for 150-200 just look up for ford probe or mx6 just so you know you will have to cut a bit of the exhaust pipe off and move the cat back a few inches, because the length of the new headers are abit longer.

then from there get you a magniflow 2.5" highflow cat and go with the 2.5" madrel bent pipe to the rear and top it off with which ever muffler you like.

This will save you more money in the long run, and you will already have a exhaust setup that is ready for that 2.5l motor :)

I love my muffler its a Nakayama 5-ziegen muffler sounds great!

I agree with exactly what you said. Go with the OBX headers, magnaflow cat and muffler. But in between the cat and the muffler. put a resonator. It will give the car a nice smooth tone.

Exhaust Q's have been quite thoroughly posted and are at your finger tips if you take the time to do a search.

Very nice work in progress. I just might cringe a little the first time you go over a set of railway tracks or a few good pot-holes and the like. Try a search on previous member's anguishes with having body parts especially the front and rear bumpers molded to the body. Crack city as soon as you leave any surface other than glass. Unless of course it's strictly for show and not a daily driver. Nice colour choice though.

Ya I did some of the reading on this on the sight but Im no tech guy at all and have hardly any idea what most of that ment when you were doing all the math. You had either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" for the motor size so I figured it would be safer to just ask my specific question so I can tell the muffler shop exactly what to do based off you all. Im still learning alot with my mx-3 and thats something yet to be completely learned.

As far as the cracking you were talking about-we have the new aeroflex kit installed and testing to see how it holds up before painting the entire car(still saving for lambo doors anyways) and with the custom air ride installed already we should know how the aeroflex material holds up so wish me luck. If any car would be best to test, one with air ride will surely top it off! It will either crack or flex like its suppost to. Oh and its not a full show car, more of a weekend only driver with good weather permitting. To many haters where I live and stupid drivers by the dozen...

Speaking of which, anyone have the turbo kit installed and dyno tested yet for either 1.8 or the 2.5? (the one from Pakfeifer Tuning) Im very interested in how much of a difference it makes before I invest in one of my own!! :D

Havent got the headers in yet but started with the flex pipe cause it was cracked and opened it up to 2.5" to the back with 4" tips rapped in carbonfiber. Installed flowmaster high flow cat and 2 mufflers and this B@#$ growls!! Gets alittle high just pasted 3000 rpms and then goes quite almost like you can hear the air passing through only. Hard to really explain but it's deep at the light and if you put your foot into it she'll wake up the town-sounds great!

As for the front here it is without the mesh last thing to install
