Serious Build questions

Post by 95eclipsers »

Ok here it goes. My dailey driver is a 93 5spd mx-3 its the 4cyl. i know that much and ive been threw 3 engines so far, and all of which seemed to over heat. I run my cars hard plain and simple. so i need somthing reliable. I want to go N/A but from the searches ive been doing getting around 120whp NA is nearly impossible cause most of the people barely snag that with this Bpt swap. Now i dont want any go search threads cause ive been searchin and havent found s---. So i need a hand thanks.

What kind of aftermarket forged pistons are there, how strong are teh stock rods? cams valves springs? anyone ever raised the redline to say maybe 8-9k? and had it been reliable. or does everyone just run to the boost side of the performance world? i really wanna know, plus can someone give me and EXACT detailed list of everything needed for the 1.6 Bpt swap, and is corksports the best motor out there for the buck it will be 1100 shipped that seems pricey for 120hp. lol Sorry i used to be a dsm guy and hp werent hard to come by, and now i own a Nsx and i want to have a nicely powered NA dailey driver and want somthing nice looking like the mx not a civic. thanks please no flames

a BP is a N/a 130 HP 4cl
the BPT is 180-210(depending on model) Turbocharged 4cl.
the b6t is a 1.6L turbo SOHC 130 hp.

You may can use rods/pistons from a miata 1.6L
(Someone else should verify)

you have a great base to start with for the swap... i can't believe you didn't find any info using the search button... i had to search a lot cause i was doing the swap in my 94 but now i'm doing it in my v6 93

your options for swaps are

another 1.6L sohc

a 1.6L dohc / turbo (b6t) from the mercury capri xr2 or the mazda 323 gtx
a 1.6L dohc (b6) from the 94/96 mx3
a 1.8L / turbo (bpt) from the jspec proteges / 323 / familia
a 1.8L (bp) from ford escort gt / protege

you could probably do any one of these for under 2 grand easily if you do it yourself including all parts

like
BPT = 1.8L Turbo

B6T = 1.6L Turbo

just go onto Corksports web page and look up th eJspec engines, and you will find what motors will swap in.

honestly if you wanted to go N/A, you could get a N/A 1.8L BP to lay 130 to 140 to the wheels if you have a little money to throw at it like around 2 to 3K. just for an FYI i think the 99' Miata came with a 10:1 comp piston, VS the normal 9:1. that will improve the 1.8 quite a bit.

Ok so does the 99 miata motor drop in? cuase illl just find a used one here in the states?

If not can i get the 1.8 protege motor or escort gt and will it drop right in, or do i have to get a different ecu and wiring? mounts? tranny? clutch, i want to know if theres a motor with some more power than 88hp that literaly drops in!

no takes a little bit of modifying, swaping the coolent lines around and such. But a BPT is basically a drop in for the 92-93 SOHC models. even the ECU is plug and play. for the most part if you want to run the knock sensor you have to run two more wires but who needs a knock sensor. all you need is an intercooler with some piping, and maybe a little bigger exhause. you could even use your stock exhaust if you wanted to. and the BPT is a 170 hp at the crank.

So the bpt is drop in and i can use the stock ecu if i pipe my own intercooler and do my own exhaust? were is the best place to fine one of these i see corksports has some but theres a 1.6 and 1.8 which one is better and which ones is a easier swap.

BTW help asap my dailey driver died today so this project is on ASAP terms now. btw if i can get a hand ill take pics and do a complete right up if anyone wants it. ill even get vids, if it rolling with the nsx and skyline. :twisted:
