Need help with a question regarding the transaxle oil on a 93 mx3 GS that I recently purchased. I am in the process of changing the transaxle oil (not sure if the previous owner ever did). Per the service manual
posted on the MX-3.com homepage (for a 1995 MX3-assume it's the same for a 93??) indication is that I have a G25M-R transaxle mounted to a K8 DOHC V6 engine.
The question:
In section J2 section page seven, changing this fuild mentions to use either a GL4 or 5 SAE 75 or 80W/90 oil (a heavier gear oil).
Before I replaced the oil I checked in the fill plug and noticed the existing oil inside is red????? like an automatic tranny oil.
Is the 75or 80W/90 the correct oil to use??? and could the existing red stuff be this type of oil (from the factory?) or did the previous owner put the WRONG type in???
Your comments are appreciated. Thanks
Frank-Edmonton

If you have a 5speed GS, you'd want to use 80w90 gear oil...
------------------
~'94 GS (Creek Blue Mica)

HAve a 5spd. I think what you said White fish about gear oil being red makes me feel better. Just want to make sure it's "gear oil" that should go in. And living in Edmonton, probably should go with the 75 weight.
