I had 268 whp (dyno'd) on 8 psi and used to run 10. The motor ran absolutely excellent for 15k miles. No blow by, no wear on the rings, compression still great and all. This was on a stock junkyard motor with 140k miles at the time.

I say for anything up to maybe 325 whp, good tuning and intercooling is all you really need.

those are great #'s what kind of turbo were you using and what do you recommend.i am going to be megasquirted so tuning will be nice i will have some redtop injectors but i want a turbo that spools up nice and fast but can handle the power i want to give it...any1 have any ideas?

If its going to be a 2.5 DE motor should be no problem but if you’re going to run a ZE. Its higher compression, and from what I understand it wont take the boost too well. With the higher the comp, the better and more precise you’re tuning needs to be. But 250 whp should be easily attainable

I used a stock turbo off a 1987 buick grand national at the time.

Now I have a stock turbo off a 2002 dodge cummins.

With megasquirt tuning a ZE for 10 psi would be no problem at all.

The best combo would that be a KLDE block with ZE heads, plus a .63 trim T3/T04e?

I`m still planning my project, and I`m struggling between a NA KLZE or a Turbo`d DE.

of course, with a ZE I could always get forged internals and boost it safely later on.

ah well, cashflow is low at the moment anyway...

agreed that would be a sweet motot. i would definatly go with the Turbo DE. it may cost a bit more but you will have more fun with it in the long run.

Just take the $$ you would spend on new pistons and rods and put it into tuning, it will pay off very well.

Agreed

Already in progress....but swapping the Turbo for a Supercharer.

I spoke to EZ 4 FUN on Messenger, the guy thats organising the Turbo kit. Very helpfull with sorting a few queries i had. He said i would need a megasquirt, Millennia S injectors if i wanted max power and i should be fine to run 10Psi Boost. He also said the ZE has forged internals, what makes the DE so special apart from lower CR? Is a ZE not a good engine to Boost? Also how much trouble is a megasquirt to set up?

:slap:
The ZE does not have forged internals.

If you have to ask how much trouble it is to install, chances are you're not ready to take the plunge. Read up my friend. http://www.megasquirt.info

Most people will use a DE over a ZE because its half the cost.

Its just that you cant push as much PSI as a KLDE on a KLZE and that tunning is easier on a KLDE
However, we all know that, the more the compression, the more power you gain from forced induction.

A KLZE (10.0:1 static CR) boosting 6psi
6psi/14.7psi = .40
.40 + 1 = 1.40
1.40 x 10 = 14 effective CR

A KLDE (9.2:1 static CR) boosting 6psi
6psi/14.7psi = .40
.40 + 1 = 1.40
1.40 x 9.2 = 12.88 effective CR

A KLDE at 8PSI
.54
.54 + 1 = 1.54
1.54 x 9.2 = 14.16

I dont know the max boost you can push on a KLDE but I sure do know that on a KLZE you can push 10PSI

Have read up on the megasquirt and i think it is awesome. Unfortuinatley it does seem like a serious commitment for installing and would take alot if time and effort. I would be more likely to maybe get someone to set it up so as i dont cause any harm by running it too lean and running with the ZE dettonating.
I think i may just run with KL31 ECU on 6PSi with Millennia S injectors also Fuel Pressure Regulator untill i get MS. Would this be asensible approach? Safe for engine?

This will add insentive for me to get the MS and set it up over a period of time so i dont end up rushing just so i can whack her up to 10Psi, then do it properly.
