If you aren't running a highly modified motor and drive train, there is no point. You'll gain maybe 8 - 12 HP from freeing it up but it's not worth it for the hassle of slow speeds.

I owned a 84' fiero with rack and pinion only and it sucked major monkey ballz at slow speeds. It gets extremely tiring of driving it that way and annoying to say the least.

Your car though. Live and learn =)

Want some serious gains, put NOS stickers on your car =) Just kidding..o.o

Acually diffrent types of cars are diffrent, i had no power steering on my sentra, it was hard at first but then i changed out all the bushings, and it was only a little bit harder then a car with power steering.

You end up getting used to it, i didnt have A/C either, so the only belt driven componet was my alternater, and i had a Underdrive pulley on it. :)

Did you have an electric water pump ?

You can get things to stiffen the body to reduce body roll to make it turn a little better with no power steering, hypothetically.

Don't CRXs come with no power steering? I could have swore mine did not. Never seemed much of a problem, even at lower speeds. Just gotta put some muscle into it when you are at a dead stop trying to turn the wheels.

Maybe im just strong...but driving without power steering is not a big deal with me. I dont even really notice it to much any more except liek i said at a stop or anything under 2 miles anhour. and even theni can still turn it easy enough..but then again im pretty buff with the weight straining and martialarts and gymnastics...: P

So I see that driving without powersteering only sucks when your going like 2-8mph.
I got a question, at higher speeds, does a MX3 without powersteering handle the same as a MX3 with power steering? Would you even notice a difference?
Would you guys recommend it for Auto X?
How much space does taking out your A/C and P/S save?

No I would NOT reccomend it for AutoX. When you're breaking hard into a corner, there is NO WAY IN HELL you could steer the car without power steering. Go ahead and disconnect the belt and try taking a late, hard breaking corner at 20 MPH. When the jaws of life pulls you from the twisted wreck, let us know how that worked out for you.

12 HP?.......Holy crap catwoman. If this is true, ill get rid of my power steering.
That is a noticable amount of gain.

XxantwawnxX, what specific belt did you use once you removed your powersteering? i loved my EGT when i took out the p/s. i could feel the car better and didnt have the sloppy play like it did before. and i even had a 13" steering wheel on it! just parallel parking was a b----, besides that, no worries, builds muscles :P haha.

but yea, knowing what belt you used would be great, also someone mentioned running just the alternator and then an U/P...what belt did you use?

i never thought about re-routing the belt, because i know you need the p/s hooked up to run the waterpump

now i dont remember what size it was...but i bought a belt witht he same nubmer ribs and i bought it smaller..and i guess i got lucky on th efirst try. i used the tensioner to make sure it was tight...and its been like thise for....over 3 years no probs what ever. the belt even wore its own groves into the other side of th epulley tensioner : P

good job man! so did you eventually remove the powersteering pump and the lines? because im sure the pump and lines have a good weight to them.

also, how many ribs does the belt have? and i think if i got some string and wrapped it around the alternator/waterpump and what not, i should have a close enough size, because i wanna take out my a/c too.

thanks
