Better Transmission for V6 ?

Post by sinhron »

Hello there,
I was driving my car today, and noted that our cars are not ment for some serious speed, above 220-240.
So has anyone come up with some transmission upgrade, to get a slightly higher gear ratios and stronger transmission, Which would not cost an arm and a leg ?
I mean , why would you like a turboed MX-3 , if it'll only do 220 ?

P.S>
And I know about the tranny out of mx-6, but this does not count.

Why wouldn't it count? For the most part, a transmission is a transmission is a transmission, therefore if it's different gearing you want, than have a transmission shop change the gears that you're unhappy with. If it's the top speed that you're most concerned with than I believe the final drive gear would be where to look at. I believe the MX6, 626 and Probe have a taller final drive that would allow for a higher top end speed without the extra risk of destroying the engine due to high revs. The first link will probably help most from the ten minute search I did to get these,

It's not the 5th gear but rather the final drive gear to give you 4:11. Top speed - who knows?? Who really cares, it's really how fast you get there - torque.

The probe and MX3 share the same gear ratios.

The people that kept their k8 transmissions when they swapped in a KL noted they maxed out at around 125-130mph.....the mx-6 transmission was 140 i believe....

but this is not accounting the speed limiter on the ECU, so the numbers could be wrong, doublecheck.

I have a MX-6 trans. It tops out at 143 MPH and the K8 I used to use topped out at 130. Not much difference at all. Not worth the bother IMO.

And J-Beef, what do revs matter when he is talking about top speed. That will always be the redline...

Yeah, Tnanks for the reply.
This speed is allright for North America, but If you live in Europe, and go on their Highway, you can see cars flying going around 300 km/h.
I myself was driving 240 there and there was cars passing me all the time...
Maybe it is too dangerous to go over 220 km/h in a mx-3 anyhow. I was just curious.
Thanks for the input PPL
