I really need help on this one! knocking sound?

Post by jfbourgault »

Hi, really need help on this one!!!!!!!!!
for the past two weeks, i've been getting a
knocking sound everytime I leave in 1 st gear, or take off from a dead stop. I had the cv boots checked( cv joints are perfect).
I know for sure that it is not the transmission as it is not coming from there, the noise is situated in the front right wheel. It only does it when i go and disapears after, untill I stop and go again.
I was told that it could be a tie rod end, but there is no slack what so ever on it. But here's where the shocker comes, I was told by my mechanic that it could be the damper in the rack-and-pinion.he thinks it could be( although he was clear that he is not 100% sure) that since everytime y shake the steering wheel, the sound comes back!!!!
has anyone had this problem before? please please help me, it's driving me crazy!!!
(keep in mind that my whole suspension is being replaced next week, and it does not sound like a suspension problem)

------------------
Dude, I had (have) the same problem. And its not the CV joints because I just had new driveshafts put in, and doesn't make the same noise anyways.
I've also been told motor mounts, which I believe is not a serious problem, just a little annoying sometimes. For me, if I hear an odd sound, I practicly want to take the car apart till I find the noise and correct it, but recently I haven't heard the noise often at all. so hang in there.
and no, it wouldn't vibrate at all speeds all the time, at least mine doesn't.
------------------
Marc 93MX3RS
[This message has been edited by GEN-MX (edited September 07, 2001).]
