I am going to swap out my k8 this weekend for another jdm k8. My question is; is it easier to pull the engine and tranny as a unit and unbolt them outside of the car or is it easier to unbolt them and just remove the engine. I have done many engine swaps before, but I am not sure which way to go with this one.

its easier to leave the engine and tranny bolted to eachother. Pull them out as a whole.
I have always done this on KL-ZE swaps for the Probe/Mx-6, and i did the same on my KL-ZE swap for my MX-3.
Also put it back together outside the car and lower it in as a whole as well..it makes the job 20x easier.

Well it is done. From what I can tell the only reason not to take the engine out by itself is that there would be no room to move it off of the tranny input shaft. Oh well. I could do it in half the time if I had to do it again. BTW the new engine runs SWEET. I am having EGR issues but it is smooth!

Thats cool. If i were you and going through the trouble of swapping, i would have put in a 2.5 klde or klze. They are both bolt-on.
