I think the older version of Megasquirt requires a minimum of Windows95.

Does it warn me of "danger to manifold" before my passengerside floorboard flies off?

No - it only monitors the drivers side unless you get Windows Service Pack 762947538 Release XXIV.

I should also add the wiring should be installed here:

no man that is a very sensitive valve if you touch it the grease from your fingers will destroy it and it is extremely sensitive to replace there was a whole thread about this

oh and advanta if you can find a stand alone that will work with 95 then great a small laptop is a great way to go cause you can use it to constantly monitor and even save data from the engine when tuning and just driving so you'll know what is going on with the engine

The tuning software for the MAP-ECU will run on Windows 95.

It is a fully-programmable, "intercept" style fuel management system. You first run it in learning mode to learn the outputs of the stock VAF (Vane Air Flow) sensor vs. the readings from the MAP-ECU's internal MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. Once this initial mapping is done, you can remove the restrictive VAF entirely, and run off of the MAP sensor only. The MAP-ECU sends the appropriate signal to the factory ECU to tell it how much fuel to dispense.

Note that the MAP-ECU ONLY works on fuel delivery, nothing else. It does have some additional outputs that can control nitrous systems, among other things, but it really is a fuel-only system. The benefit is that it is relatively inexpensive ($650 US) and very easy to set up vs. a full standalone engine-management system.
