i test drove this mx3 the other day, when i shifted up or geared down it made this whining noise that sounded really really weird. (like a jet engine)?.. im really not sure what it is, should i be concerned in buying it? it wouldnt matter just that everyone stares at you haha. but id like to know what it is and how i can fix it? how much it would cost? thanks

Sounds clutch related since it happens when you shift. I would guess pilot or throwout bearing or just the rivits of the clutch itself making noise.

Very likely that its a vacum leak then. I had a bad leak around my intake manifold and it sounded like a screaming cricket.

I'd stay away from it...
Just today the tranny went out in my 93 Geo Prism.
2 days ago it started making the exact same noise, and yes, only when accelerating/deaccelerating.

whining sounds normally are from the tranny, for example put it in reverse and reverse it same sounds come.

ppl often use the "jet engine" sound, to describe a wheel bearing that is wearing out. Less a whining and more like a rumbly/roaring noise that happens on acceleration and decel. That might be the prob.
