Nitrous would do it in a hurry! Basic dry kits w/ 10lb. bottle are going for around $500. The only thing is you have to keep filling the bottle. Around here a refill is around $40-$50. But it would make your car WAY faster than 16's (depending on size shot you run).

To get into the 16s, you would probably need a lightened pulley, racing clutch and lightened flywheel and some aggressive timing. Lightweight wheels/rims would also help as well.

Sorry to say this but ether you swap for a BPT, or turbo charge, or supercharge, or take out 500IBs out of your car or live by running low 17s.

so your saying theres no way i can get into the 16's without motor swaping, taking out 500LBS or having forced induction done to my car? i think its possible especially after running a 17.2@ 77mph. i think i can get into the high 16's once i get my suspension in. but till then i guess i have to live with low 17's.

How are your launches? Do you have traction issues or wheelhop?

i think my launches are ok. but my friends say that when i launch my whole front end jumps up then it just drops down as if i was bogging out. heres my time slip from the other night.i had to rev to 4000 or 4500 to get this time.

you can get the 1.6 dohc into the 16's w/o a motor swap. i would put smaller exaust on for sure. with a N/A car you need the back pressure, and your definatly not getting it with 2 1/4" exhaust. 1 3/4" or 2" MAX for a 1.6 N/A. then throw in some cams and miata 1.8 injectors. along with a decent suspension to get rid of that hop or bogging down look. and you should be able to hit mit to high 16's easy. and if not then throw in a wet NOS kit.
iv heard of some getting into the low 17's high 16's with just CAI, and exahust, flywheel and suspension. suspension will help your launches alot.

all i can say is Suspension does wonders.
A clutch and flywheel will also make you get there.

i think you can get cams for the DOHC 1.6 from a miata...
i just installed a test pipe yesterday and im hoping that gets me into the 16's, right now im running consistent 17.3's with CAI, exhaust, wires, suspension, and hoping that the test pipe will shave off that .3 seconds or more.
anyone here have the 1.6DOHC running in the 16's or better?

you have to look!!!
Corksport sells some, and any Miata 1.6L B6 cams can be swaped with minor timming mods.
i know there are several people on here in the 16's, i dont know why they arnt posting? But you can also get a ported throttle bodie, that will help. and by throwing in a fuel controller you can get your car tuned to its max potential with what you got. an AFC can do wonders on an N/A car as well. and like i was saying before your exhaust is too big. i would put some kind of reducer in there or a nice muffler that will give you some backpressure. cause rite there your being robbed quit possably as much a .5sec. and definatly your .3sec. the AFC can help it compinsate for the extra air flow.

You don't need backpressure. You need exhaust velocity. Take a look at the V6 FAQ and there is an excellent write-up in there about exhaust sizes. Your pipes are too big and the exhaust gas is cooling midway through the pipes and losing speed. If you could keep the gas moving fast with as little backpressure as possible you will net a few more horsepower.
P.S.- I'm going to be running 2.25" mandrel-bent exhaust on my KL-ZE so it's definetly too big for a 1.6.
