ZX2 Struts blowen in under 2 years (1992 MX-3 GS)

Just thought i would mention that in March 2003 I bought some ZX2 Struts, Upper Thrust Bearings, and Dust Boots. Brought them to a very reputable mechanic and told em' to put them on my car...no problem.

It's now March 2005 and both of my front ZX2 Struts are blowen. There is oil on the strut mounts. A buddy of mine who is a mechanic pointed this out to me the other weekend when he was replaceing an out of the box faulty axle.

Here is my setup...
1992 Mazda MX-3 GS 1.8L
Suspension Technique Lowering Springs
205/40/17 tires in summer and 205/60/15 in winter

This car is driven 90% highway and 10% in-town. The area i live in does not have a problem with potholes or rough roads either. So yah, as far as im concerned the ZX2 Struts are total garbage. Didn't even get two f---in' years out of the things.

They are blown because they are under sprung. Suspension tecniques are made for the RS only. You need stiffer springs with the GS.

umm im riding on eibachs for an mx3 we will see if they mine explode or not soon, as the roads here ... might as well be rally dirt roads and the suspension is stiff.

The roads in London must have gotten a lot worse since I lived there.

damn thats really surprising! i'd think those zx2's would last forever since they're hard to bottom out and most of the pressure is on the springs. :? but anywayz it might be that Sus Tech is the prob?

no dust boots = blown struts. did you have some?

I wouldn't say the springs are the problem.. i have them on my RS (which they're made for, as was pointed out earlier), and i haven't had any issue with my struts at all. The springs have been on for 3 years and the struts are older than that.

didn't u have a heated debate w/ sam baker a while back about how great these struts were? kinda ironic i think...
