I just installed this after my Norton Corporate Edition was hacked by a virus (seemingly) and stopped updating & scanning weekly.

It found 4 viruses that Norton never found. I would suggest anyone using norton or mcaffee download AVG and run it once to see if you have any viruses. You don't have to uninstall your existing software, but do NOT have norton or mcafee (or whatever) running in your taskbar when you run AVG to prevent interferance.

My roomate also has Norton (a newer version) and her computer had 16 viruses that norton didn't detect when I installed AVG on her's.

I dunno wtf the problem is...but it seems norton has a tendency to get hacked somehow. Mine stopped scheduling weekly routine virus scans. I have to open the software manually & click "full scan" to have it scan. It also stopped updating itself. I'd have to run liveupdate manually as well. Coincidence???? Glitchy software?? I doubt it...i think a virus did it and since Norton is so commonly used, it'd be more likely a virus would directly affect it with malicious code.

avg is the s---! sorry about the naughty language. If I wasn't gettin a new puter in a few months i'd be all about that. A friend of mine has just the free version and it blows away his brand new Norton setup!

Norton is very overated.. not to mention overpriced.. I have been using Kaspersky AV.. pretty decent.. but like most AV programs.. it still has a few glitches.. I tend to turn my AV off during the week.. then do a full system scan when I go to bed every Sunday night. I keep my system clean this way (found only 8 viruses in the past year) but my AV software doesnt glitch my browsers or other stuff.. plus I can still do manual scans of e-mail and such just by right clicking on the file.

One trick to avoiding e-mail viruses is to turn off the preview pane in Outlook or Outlook Express. This will help prevent attached files from getting the chance to "Auto Run" when you click on the file (even if you are clicking on it to delete a suspect file).. Just a heads up..

I dont use anything else than Norman. excellent piece of software.
It costs money, unlike AVG though.

But I feel it`s definetely worth it, as they got Sandbox.
A system that runs all unknown executables in a virtual environment, to see if it changes the registry, everything the file does, and the file just thinks it does the job it`s supposed to, but in reality, its totally seperated from the OS.

I prefer McAfee, and also got Spybot, AdAware, and Spyroot, these 4 softwares keep my computer 100% clean
