BPT ECU option clarification

I have a 92 SOHC mx-3 that i swapped the BPT into. The thing is fast as he_l!! It is also thirsty as he_l (like 5MPG highway) which was expected. I am using the stock SOHC ECU with a Apexi Super AFC 1 (silver w/ blue screen) and have leaned it out just enough so that the engine doesn't flood untill it starts boosting. Then there is a small degree of sputtering then the power kicks in like crazy. After searching on this site I have houd a few options combinations and I was looking for some clarification on what would work well.
Option 1: (seems pretty cheap)
keep stock SOHC mx-3 ECU wire the Super AFC's TPS reading into a MAP and tune fuel settings off of boost.(see the post about fooling the Super AFC. It is some interesting stuff)
Option 2: (a little more but still cheap)
Use the Protege BP ECU wire in Super AFC and fool the Super AFC with a MAP sensor
Option 3: ($768+)
Slurge like crazy and get an uncut GTX wiring harness and ECU, wirie in the Super AFC and plug and play
OPtion 4: (empty my wallet)
Get a complete stand alone system. and the he_l with the Super AFC.
Option 5: (??????)
????????????
Thanx for any information and I appreciate the information I have alrady gotten off of this web site. I installed my BPT in a day and it fired up on the first try.

i think Franko found out that the GTX ecu plugs into the SOHC harness

Well actually I think the BPT ECU plugs into the SOHC harness. If you use the search function or even look through the last week of threads there was already a topic about that.

Use PM's from there.

I think I read too much at once and got confused. So All I woudl need is the BPT ECU box? If that is the case that makes things RIDICULOUSLY (poor spelling) simple and I am sorry for wasting your time.

I can help you out dude..
I have the settings that you will need for the safc, but I wont be able to get them until tomorow night. My car is up in storage.. When it is tuned properly you wont need to mess with the tps.. What are you using for a throttle body? If youre using the mx3 harness you may have noticed that the throttle position sensor didnt plug into the harness because on the bpt it is a 4 wire and on the mx3 it is a 3 wire. Leaving it unplugged didnt seem like a good idea so I just changed the throttle body over from the mx3 to the bpt. You can not just change the sensor because it attaches differently. Let me know what you did.

Well when the engine showed up at my house the throttle body was really beat up and all the sensors were destroyed. So I used the throttle body from the mx-3. I am using the mx-3 wiring harness so all of the plugs did in fact plug in. I hooked up the Super AC correctly and I have the on off type of TPS(0-5v nothing inbetween). I talked to corksport and they said I could get a BPT ECU for $300 if they could find them. Anybody know where else to get the BPT ECU?

You're going to have trouble finding the bpt ecu for your engine.. I know that I had a hard time to find one. Well, since you have the mx3 throttle body and ecu my safc settings should work perfectly. I still havent gotten to the car yet but when I do I will get those settings for you. If you do get the bpt ecu then you may want to change your throttle body to the correct one and convert your throttle position sensor to the 4 wire.. its not hard. That way your car will run properly.

Option 4 is the most logical and user friendly.

Hooked up a map sensor, and regulated voltage by seperate board, on a BPT MX3 with sohc ecu in the summer. It ran stoich while cruising with larger injectors... don't know his gas mileage, but if the a/f is right, there isn't much you can do to improve it.

I am going to start searching for a BPT ECU and run with the AFC for now. I would love to have good AFC settings. When you get the chance send them to me my email is

Ive never heard the words 'stand alone' and 'user friendly' in the same sentence before, unless there is a 'is not' or a 'is definately not' in there somewhere. I remember back in the day everyone was telling me to get a standalone... 'Get a haltech' they say 'its much better' they say. Well my friend has a haltech in his tiburon and its nothing but trouble. It was broken right out of the box and would only fire on 2 cyls so they had to send it away. Now they cant get the basemaps to come up on the program.. it keeps asking for a password.. Its just trouble. I look at it this way.. you can spend a few grand buying/installing/tuning the haltech or you can spend a couple of hundred bucks once with a basically plug and play ecu that you never have to worry about again and make either the same or more hp.
I remember talking to someone from the forums here who was using a haltech for their bpt.. we both had dynoed our cars and the hp numbers were the same and my torque was a little bit higher, and I think he ended up blowing the bpt because of a tuning issue with the haltech. Just my opinion on it..
Ill send you those numbers tonight jb, I got them last night but I forgot to send them.

It matters on the support for the engines and where you get the maps. There are guys down in Australia and over in europe that have awesome maps for the BPT. And Haltek's are good. They are a pain to wire up but the expeirence with my bros has been awesome so far. He got a basic map from and Aussy guy that made one up for him and athough it isn't perfect the haltek has a lot fo safty stuff so he hasn't blown the engine yet. As long has you have a good solid day to tune a car Halteks are the way to go. Remember with standalones it is easier to control higher HP and has better tuneing. Although there are some problems it is mostly due to lack of expeirence and knowledge in tuneing. So if you have the money and a local dyno that dyno tunes halteks I say go for it!

Hmm so you say that the bpt ecu plugs into the sohc harness?
ok now tell me if this sounds like a logical idea.
If i were to use a bpt ecu and apexi safc2 with my b6t.

Sweet thanx for the fuel settings.

I will be trying them out this weekend.
