I Have a 1992 Mx-3 Gs and i gutted the stock cat and got a weld on muffler. When i shift at 5500 or higher backfires really loud. Any Ideas?

That almost sounds like you've got a valve sticking... I could be wrong though...

Could be too much backpressure. Try resetting your ecu(to compensate for the no-cat change) BTW where in florida are you from?

Hey my ze back fires too. I guess its because I'm running with a K8 ecu still and it is running really really rich I can smell it. One time it backed fired soooooooo bad it lit up my whole back view mirrors.

The flame was pretty big and the bang was soooo freaking loud too.

its normal if u have a really free-flowing exhaust.
mine occasionally does it when I shift at 4500-5000, but not every time.

i wouldn't worry about it then.....even the stock pipes will flow fine if you guy the cat & put a free-flow muffler on.
