Hey, guys,
I was calling around junkyards in my area to find an Mx-3 with a good rear end (to fix my old RS) and I found one in a yard way back in the boonies. My dad went to check it out and found it in decent shape. The junkyard owner also told Pops that the car had a 1.5L turbo in it. I haven't been to check it yet, but I was wondering if any of you knew anything about a 1.5L turbo... I'll be going to look at it prob tomorrow and I'll post what I see.

no such thing. Maybe he was looking at a 323 turbo with a 1.6?? Let us know in any case.

i would have a guess that it's a jap import which has been custom turbo'd.

a guy who lives near me has a 1.5 auto. When it came to insure it the insurance companies did not have that there was a 1.5 ever made but sure enough on all the documents it's a 1.5. that is a jap import.

Agreed-- I am pretty sure that an option in Japan was for a 1.5L.

Dont know why the difference in size- but oh well.

there are two mx3's in fair condition in the junk yard on joe johns rd, which is right off 220.

that isn't the same 1.5L that was in the 95-98 protege was it?

Check the section on this site for the UK and Jap spec MX-3s and they got a topic on the 1.5L in there right now.

Well, I went to check it out a couple days ago, and the owner of that yard obviously has no clue. He was freaking out the the speedometer reads 150 mph. I don't know if he even looked at the engine. It's the stock 1.6L 4-banger. Sorry to get everyone so interested.

yeah, i bought that car for the wifey. i'm usually riding the bike or driving the z28. very seldom do i take her car out unless the whole crew is going.

You're right, Ashley, I went and checked out that yard on Joe John's the day I saw your post (I work 10 mins from there) and they've actually got five mx-3's now, most in decent shape. I never found the GS they said they had in the back, but then they showed me the motor they'd gotten outta it. It's the 2.5L KL-DE Probe engine. I didn't know of an Mxer around here with a 2.5L swap. Anyway, the engine has a blown head gasket but a good core, so they said. I'll prob be going back there eventually for some plasic pieces etc. Thanks! See you around
