How much HP can a SOHC hold

I am having much fun with my RS. I love what 15 psi feel like. I am going to sell the proto-type kit. Then drop a 1.8 into it.

But first I will add a TEC III 550cc and see what it will hold to. I am aiming for 300 on the stock motor. I did that many times on the 1.6 miata.

The engine will last longer than the transmission. I managed to shear the gears in the diff quite clean with my stock SOHC motor. With the TEC, I would say 300whp is possible, especially with you tuning it. Watch cylinders 1 and 2 for lean conditions but that is about it. Might need to upgrade the pump if you haven't done so already. It is good to see you moving along so quickly, maybe you will have an ELS manifold ready by the time I am ready for one ;)

Do you know if the escort tranny will bolt up without any issues with the intermediate shaft? If so that will solve my issue. I know it work on the 1.8. Just not sure about the 1.6

Tranny will bolt up but the spline shaft is different, have to swap clutch/flywheel combo (which you will probably need to do if you haven't already :D

You are going to need the 1.8 intermediate shaft and axles. If your having trouble finding one I'll pick one up for you at the yard tomarrow.

Are you ****ting me? You plan to beat your times that you set with the Mini? In that case you will want to invest in a good set of axles, Jaime picked up a set of super strong axles from driveshaftshop.com (I think). Get a LSD, solid motor mounts, you know the drill. Good Luck Ric, can't wait to see it. :D

You got it. Those parts I know I can get custom. I want to be sure I start off right. I know the 323 GT had the strongest trans that bolt right up. But those are hard to find. What I still do not know for sure is, Which is the strongest trans available that will bolt up to the b series.

Considering that Mazda no longer makes the G-series transmission, your only real option is one of the many F series that are available. Not sure if you have looked at the actual casing but that is a major weak point. The case isn't very strong, especially when compared to the ribbed case of say the 6 speed Miata tranny (or is the 5??) There have been a few guys that have shattered their cases, looking at the inside casting of my F series, I can kinda see why. A friend of mine has a turbo MX6 and had the case cryo treated as it was a major concern to him. The diff is a big weak spot....trust me on that ;) . The newer F-series transmissions have a better bearing, no tapper bearings like in the old versions. You will have a hard time finding a few spare GT transmissions to use. Might want to get in contact with Bonaccorsi Racing or maybe Tri-Point Engineering to see what they run in their cars. Slightly different demands but they do need to be strong. Have you contacted Mazda Motorsports? Bellhousing swaps are near impossible between transmission types so that can be ruled out. What is being used in the new V6 6? Might want to see if you can get in contact with Vaughn at dragon64@netcom.ca" target="_blank as he would be the definitive source on Mazda's...sorta like Randy is to the Miata. You are treading new ground, this is going to be interesting for sure.

why are bellhousings nearly impossible to swap? Is it possible to swap the 4 cylinder G25 bellhousing on to the 6 cylinder G25 trans?

Switching bell housings is tough since everything is based off of it. In order to switch bellhousings you have to swap over everything inside.
