I have decided to say screw trying to put all the plastics and carpet back in my car. Only thing is... I want to try and keep my door panels. I was wondering if anyone has made fiberglass ones before?

Jarid,

Do you want to make the whole door panel into fiberglass or just the carpeted part? If its the whole door panel you can lay a sheet of fiberglass right over the whole panel, and add resin then mold it on there. Then keep adding layers, until it strong enough. Imho, i think that if you were going to do this method, you should use the fiberglass as a mold, then learn how to work some carbon fiber, and use the fiberglass as a female mold and the door panel itself as the male mold, and have some carbon fiber doors.

www.carbon-werks.com/forum will be your friend if you decide to use my idea.

lol or you can ask people on this board if they know how to do that ;)

anyways like he said, you can make a fiberglass mold first, then use that as a mold to recreate exact replicas of your door panel in fiberglass. then you can drill holes in your door panels to add gauges or do whatever you like.

Basically I have NO paneling in my car from the door panels back. The door panels really dont look right anymore. I was looking to have something cover the door so you cant see the window and to hold the window switches and door handle. Thats about it. I havent really done much fiberglassing but I am going to give it a shot soon...

You guys know hom much those stock door panels weigh? 7.5lbs each. Great idea to make them fiberglass or carbon fibre. That is of course if you care about the weight of your ride.

couldn't find door panels, but i can try some carbon fiber door panel covers. they'll go over the entire door except for the bottom pocket area for the driverside and the speaker covers.

jarid, i would just say do it yourself, fibre-glassing is so easy, people make it so much harder then it really is, as long as you dont try to rush it and have the proper amount of hardner in the resin, its exactly like painting. and you can buy this new spray stuff that is out that you put spray over the fibreglass and it makes sanding it soooo much easier and it comes out flawless. my buddy who works for alpine said that they used this spray for all the alpine show cars, still waiting on the exact name and prices though.
