CUSTOM LIGHTS...can it happen? Plz.. help my customizat

Post by seneca »

Hey guys i'm looking at painting my mx an nice graphite pearl, with gunmetal rims, mp5 bumper, CF hood, and dark silver decals. I want to have a clean, and i guess somewhat racey look. (rice I know!) NEWAYS....
Can you paint the inside of the oem light fixture. I want the look of some of the expensive lexus' out there. The lense is clear, but the inner panel of the fixture is a dark carbon color.
does anyone know what I mean?...is it possble? ALSO do you have any suggestions or comments on my plans??? I hope to be doing this within the next month so all the advise I get get will be MUCH appreciated.
Ths everyone...I'll have pix up in a couple of months...but I need suggestions now!!! :D

dude, are you talking about painting the inside of your headlights? i dont think that would be very smart without putting better bulbs in, it would just make your light dimmer

Yeah...thats whatI was thinking too. But I want that euro/racing type look. OH wait!!! I just took a closer look at some of the pics I'm using...They actually put separate lamps inside of the light fixture on lexus' THATS how they can darken the inside!
Heres a link to the color scheme (paint/decals)and color of rims that I'm thinking of doing to my ride:

Now these lenses aren't colored but I have seen them...like on this guys':

See what do you guys think that color would look like on a 93' GS w/ MP5 body kit????
Thx,
Tyson

That or...this is the blue I was thinking about:

Notice how these all have CF hoods (It was hard to find these colors with CF hoods) And thats why I want them...I have yet to see any of these colors on an Mx3. Plz give me all of your feedback on what YOU think it would look like, or what may make it better!
Thx again guys,

Wow, it is amazing how much money in those Lexii.

See, they have a separate reflector that they use for their low and high beams. So you can paint the surrounding areas whatever you want. You Mx uses one huge single reflector that extends to be a housing. The 9004 bulbs also use 360 deg of the reflector to make a beam. So it is not like you can just pain the bottom and that will not affect anything.

You would have to experiment. I am sure that this is doable. Pop your lenses off. Start masking small parts of your interior reflector with black tape. Make sure it is not too sticky, or it will tear your chrome off the housing. Park your car 25 ft/7.5 m away from the white wall on the levelled ground. See how it changes your beam. You would have to put the lens back on temporarily to see the beam. If you are going to paint the inside of the housing, you need to get the chrome off. Easy, with fine sandpaper, such as 400-600 grit. Wet sand. But I think that it would be hard to make straight lines. You have to get creative. Make sure you use flat finish paint that is heat resistant. BBQ paint is the best. Make sure you bake the headlight after painting to get fumes off, so they do not pollute your housing and a lens. Make sure you cover the chrome parts. Goos luck. Let us know how it turns out.
