Hi,
I got my 93 auto a week ago and it is a little rough shifting from first to second. Someone said it is a chronic problem with the mx-3's, is this true or is it something i should have looked at?

You think YOURS is rough. I had the tranny fluid/filter changed awhile back when I had my oil leak repaired, and it still kicks really bad. I found that if you run Amoco midgrade, it's not as bad. I don't know why that has anything to do with it, but I want to try gold in my car - just don't want to burn up the valves.
I've had my MX-3 for almost 2 years now -- my first car. Same one my sister Jamie had a few years back...when they were new. Looked just like mine, too. The only difference was hers was a 93, but it had the same hubcaps. (?)

My `93 1.6L auto does the same thing. I also drove a 2000 626LX which also had a rough 1st to 2nd shift.
According to my Mazda dealer, this is a known issue with the automatic transmissions when mated to their 4-cyl engines. They usually wind up replacing the transmission.
Word on the street is that Mazda is notorious for making shitty automatic trannys.

------------------
<A HREF="

don't worry about it... i had a 92 mx-3 gs and it was an auto. at one point, i had the entire transmission replaced and even with the brand new tranny, i had a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. it isn't a problem. i too have heard, and from my own and friends/family's experience, realize that mazda (mx-3 and mx-6 primarily) do not have the best auto tranny's.

Has anyone else noticed the unusual delay when going from a forward mode into reverse?
I've noticed this with my MX-3, the 2000 626 I rented, and my father-in-law's MPV.
------------------
<A HREF="

Hi, yeah, i have pretty much given up. I talked to a couple of mechanics also and they say it is something i have to live with. A tip though changing your spark plugs helps a little bit.
Jess
