OBX SSAutochrome Street-Import Headers on a K8

Post by DJsMX-3 »

Hey now im really qurious if anyone have tryed to fit theese Headers on a normal little K8 MX-3 And what your impressions is of them performancewise (Low/Mid/High) RPM's...

I really want a set of Headers,But since every damb dyno of theese Headers is of either a KL-DE or a KL-ZE i have NO idea how they will perform on the little 1.8 :(

I guess the K8 is just not worth enough so that any firm want to spend the mony on a dyno for it..

And i dont think the dyno's can be transferred to the K8 because the 2.5Liters simply must have a lot more exhaustflow/gasses going through the pipes :D

CorkSport has a dyno on thier site, but it showed crappy results. The top plot is when they completely removed the exhaust. The middle one is with the stock exhaust still, but with the headers installed, and the lower one stock exhaust manifold.

They did alot better when they installed the Mazdaspeed catback exhaust.

Yeah but that dyno is on a set of Hurricaneheaders or something like that if i remember correctly...

All the ones i asked about "they are the same" are the Hotshot-style copycats, and thats just the style thats supposed to give good allround gains,On a 2.5l that is

too bad Pat form PSItuning.ca (old street-import) doesnt carry the OBX headers anymore. I think he mentionned getting the real Hotshot's but Ill let him confirm that. Either way we're out of luck for any affordable headers.

Ebay has them. If you cant find them under mx3 try mx6 or probe. Here is a set of them

I know i said OBX in the discription, but i have heard that OBX arent that good compaired to the SSAutochrome and that they should have a shi-tty sound to them...Anyone know if theres any thruth to this??

Allso im not quite sure if the OBX Headers will fit flawlessly on a MX-3 without having to cut and weld the headers to get them to fit probertly, and the fact that theyre 100$ more expensive

just had a set of the ss auto chrome headers installed today along with an unorthodox racing flywheel and act clutch. i am still running stock exhaust from the cat back. was raining tonight, so i could not really do much, but the car seems to have a good bit more power. not sure if it is from the headers or the flywheel. on the ss auto chrome headers you will have to do a good bit of bending to get the included j pipe to fit. does not look like the company is making direct fit headers--i had to purchase probe headers. also, the down pipe is longer than stock, so you will have to cut the cat back area down about 7 inches and relocate your resonator. the headers are really top drawer. beautiful welds and nice stainless steel. just don't try to get in touch with the manufacturer with any questions. no phone and they don't respond to emails unless you are placing an order. with the above mods plus denso iridium plugs, my car feels like a much better performer than when i bought it a month ago. good luck.

They change the sound of your car. I bought the headers knowing that they will benifit the KL-ZE more. But I installed them on the K8 too. They do a little. Thats the seat of the pants dyno.. It is quite obvious that they flow better than stock, being that they are tubular, and give the scavanging effect. They also look alot better. You can't loose with the price though. You do have to modify them some, but it is worth it.

I have seen and heard the soundclips from Streetimport headers, BUT they no longer have them, they just sold out the stock while still having them in their online catalogue :(

If i had known theyre were going to drop them so quickly i would have ordered a set right away, but thought i would wait untill i had the time to put them in

The modding you guys are talking about is still only that the cat needs to be moved backwards and nothing else..Right??
